Freekstyle
Review by Simoleons2K1
"Let's get Freek-ay!! BOO-YAH!"
Welcome to my point of view on the game Freekstyle for the Playstation 2. I played the demo on the 2002 Jampack disk. The first time I played Freekstyle, I could jump right into the flow of things. I played the demo for hours on end. So when my mom called from EB the next day, I immediately asked her for Freekstyle. This game is AWESOME.
Graphics: 9.5/10
The graphics in this game are amazing. The best in any
Moto-X game I have played in my lifetime. There is hardly any slowdown or pop-up. While this game is not up to par with XBox games, it most certainly shows the quality and the capabilities of the PS2. The character models are fantastic, the bikes are realistic looking and the landscaping and the level mapping can not be beat. The visuals are so detailed. You can see Mike Metzger's tats, the clothing is life-like and I am absolutely thrilled about the front-end screens. The flames added a nice touch to some already stellar graphics.
Sound: 10/10
All I can say about the sound is WOW. Everything is so clear and crisp. From the motorbikes, to the glass shattering in the power-up zones, to even the little speeches the characters give at the character selection screen. The commentator adds a nice ''extreme'' touch to the game. This is all I have to say about sound because, I was left speechless.
Control: 9.5/10
This control scheme is indigenous to the EA BIG sports line. SSX and SSX Tricky had it, both NBA Streets have it, and Freekstyle has it. A simple scheme using different combos of L1, L2, R1, or R2 and a directional button is very simple and easy to use. I give props to EA BIG for creating such an easy and simple control scheme, which dramatically decreases the learning curve.
Gameplay: 10/10
HERE is where all the fun is. This is one of the most underrated PS2 games of all time. There are plenty of huge tracks and different obstacles to go through throughout the course of a race. There are plenty of shortcuts for extra help and there are plenty of tricks for you to use, like the Can-Can, the McMetz, or the Superman. It is also very cool that each rider's bike has a different special trick from all of the other bikes. When I first picked this game up, it was just a surge through my body, just like the Freekout! meter. Once you get this full by pulling tricks off, WHOA BABY you'd better watch out. This game beats any other game I have by about a mile.
Replay Value: 10/10
I could play this game for hours and hours on end. You have your standard Circuit mode, and Freeride mode. But the Freestyle is where it's at. You do combos of tricks and build up your points in hopes of beating the high scores. You could play for hours just trying to beat your OWN high score!!
Buy/Rent?:
Three words: BUY BUY BUY!! You can pick this game up for about 15 bucks now. It is a good and cheap way to fulfill your need for speed! Please buy this game and help EA BIG put out a Freekstyle 2. If there was a line to buy Freekstyle 2 would you be first in that line? I know I would. Freekstyle is one of the greatest games for PS2, and you could be one of the hundreds of thousands of people owning it.
