Yu-Gi-Oh! The Duelists of the Roses
Review by Pteran
"Konamis ideas+ Sonys technology= One of the greatest game ever"
Its pretty easy to see that when you mix Konami's Yu-Gi-Oh with Sony's technology that you are going to get something great. This game is a sequel to the PS1 game Yu-Gi-Oh Forbidden Memories. The rules of the game play are much different, the graphics are much better, and, well its just much better than the previous game it is following. It still has some traits of Forbidden Memories for those of you who have played it, you still have to follow that annoying amount of cards that you are allowed to play each turn.
Story: 10/10
In the beginning you can chose from 3 decks to use. When you have chosen your deck a familiar person you seem to recognize shows up and offers you a choice to either betray the ones who recruited your help, or to stick with them. After that nasty business is over you are on your way to start your dueling career. When you have beaten both sides of the story you can then dueling anyone you want to from either side and it also unlocks a map edit option in Custom Duel.
Controls: 10/10
The controls are very easy to learn and incase Amnesia suddenly sets on your mind, you can look at the controls in the manual that comes with the game.
Sound and Music: 7/10
The sounds the monsters make in 3-D mode and in the 3-D battles are fine. The music is ok but it is repetitive. If you are easily annoyed by these kinds of things you can either turn on some of your own music or turn down the volume on the T.V.
Graphic: 10/10
The graphics couldn't be better. When the monsters are face-up on the field there is a little 3-D animation of them. Most of the attacks that you can watch in the 3-D battle mode are really good. My personal favorite is Giant Red Seasnake.
Lifespan/Replayibility: 10/10
Even when you are thinking, oh man, this sucks I just beat the game and hardly had any of the card collecting experience. Never fear, you can just keep on playing on the same saved game to keep collecting the cards. There are 857 cards to collect and I personally only have 400 of them.
Renting/Buying/Avoiding
Most people should rent this game first to see if they would really want to spend the money on it. If you like it go ahead and buy the game. If you don't like it then go ahead and return it to Blockbuster.
This game is really only for patient people. If you are a very patient person then this game is perfect for you.
Props of the game/ Slops of the game:
Props:
* After you win a duel you are taken to the graveyard slots and are given 3 cards that you line up in the middle.
* If you line up the same 3 cards in a row you get them and a special rare card such as a Blue-eyes White Dragon
* You can continue to play the game even after you beat both sides.
* There is a deck cost requirement so that you cannot use a Gameshark and make the unbeatable deck that you could with Forbidden Memories.
Slops:
* Some of the cards are hard to obtain 1 or multiples of.
* The music is kind of boring after a while.
* Some of the cards are totally unattainable but the computer can still use them.
Final score: 9/10
