Review by Carl McKie

"Nice game, great gamelay."

Story (7/10)
The story goes something like this… ‘Wisdom’ is using a rare metal and fusing it with human souls to create the all-powerful ‘Legacy’. Legacy is powerful weapons, which Wisdom plan to use to achieve global military domination. ‘Josh Calloway’, the hero of the game, is trained to use a legacy in which his girlfriend’s soul has been used. This places you in position of Josh Calloway, and you must take on the Wisdom Corporation in your hope to restore your girlfriend to human form.

Gameplay (8/10)
The gameplay is probably the games biggest asset. You play Josh, fighting Wisdom with these legacy weapons. There are several weapons, and some of them do other things other than damage enemies, for example, the rod helps you to perform a much bigger jump, and the snake sword expands, grabs onto a nearby object, and pulls you towards it. Ideal for getting over gaps that are too big to jump. The fighting system is good, although it could have been improved. Once an enemy is on the floor, you can just keep attacking him until he dies, although some enemies perform attacks when they stand up that stop you from doing this. The game is fairly easy (although I only played on the normal difficulty), but I expect some people to fail to see that this is also a puzzle game, as I did. The first boss you had to somehow take out his shadow form, and it took me something like three attempts to find out what to do. Probably because I wasn’t looking at the radar. The cut scenes are good, because you have to be alert at all times, as something could attack you and cause damage, so get ready to hit that button when a cut scene starts.

Sound (3/10)
The sound is annoying at times. When an enemy comes into view, some sort of stupid music comes on to try to build up the suspense I guess, but I prefer to have my own music playing, and the game muted. The characters have voices, which is nice, but still, only a 3 out of 10 for sound.

Graphics (6/10)
Not the best graphics, but they get the job done. As long as the game producer focuses on gameplay, then the graphics aren’t really important. The characters are nicely done, and the surrounds are even better, but still, far from the PS2’s top standards.

Replay Value (4/10)
I haven’t finished the game yet, I’m almost there, but when I do finish it, I don’t think I’ll play it again for a while, I don’t see any reason too. I might come back to it sometime and play it through on a harder difficulty.

Overall (6/10)
If you like beat ‘em up’s crossed with action/adventure, then go out and buy the game. Well, rent it, as it won’t take you long to complete, and I doubt you would want to play it over again for a while.
