Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon
Review by GrantM
"Was the wait worth it.......I'd say it was"
A lot can happen in 6 years, over those 6 years we've seen the adventure game genre almost completely disappear from the face of gaming, the traditional point and click adventure game has gone the way of the text adventure genre.
However it seems some developers still believe in the adventure genre with recent games such as Syberia proving there is still a market for this sort of genre.
And so we come to Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon, the long awaited third installment in this enduring but popular series, the first thing to mention is that the game now uses full 3-D movement rather than the point and click system that the first 2 games used.
Apart from that Broken Sword 3 is just like it's predecessors, fans of the series will be glad to play once again as George and Nico after waiting 6 years for this installment in the series, unlike the previous game where you mostly played as George and occasionally as Nico, you now frequently alternate between playing as George and Nico, throughout the game you will go the many destinations such as the Congo, Glastonbury, Paris, Prague and Egypt
The graphics (now in full 3-D) are highly detailed, from the characters to the environments, everything looks gorgeous, Revolution must of spent a lot of time on this part of the game, there is the odd slowdown every now and then (at least on the Playstation 2 version), but apart from that, like I said before...gorgeous
The sound is another high quality effort from Revolution, not only did they bring back the voice actor who did George from the previous two games, they also did well on the music, despite the fact that they could not get Barrington Pheloung (who did the music in the first 2 games) the composer they used for this game did a fine job.
The only problem I have with this game is...well when you've been waiting for a game like Broken Sword 3 for so long you kind of expect it to be an epic game, however unless you know what you are doing, you could probably get through the entire game in at least 2 days or more, compared to the several weeks I spent trying to get through the first 2 games. It's a common problem in adventure games, you expect a lot but naturally are left wanting so more
Overall this is one of the best modern adventure games I've played. I recommend it highly
