Spawn: Armageddon
Review by MrSkull
"Not bad, not bad at all."
Alright, blame Devil May Cry for setting the standards incredibly, impossibly high. This game has a lot going for it, and if ''that game'' never existed this game would most likely have received better reviews. Let's start, shall we?
Graphics:
Not quite to the level I was expecting, especially when you look at other games coming out now. Most of the characters animate smoothly, and there are some great effects (spawns hell powers look nice), but Spawn himself looks a little poorly modeled. The backgrounds are particularly awful looking, but it's not so bad as to distract from the game itself. Oh, it also supports widescreen for all you people with the nice tv’s….jerks. Heh.
Sound:
Sounds good! Booming guns, loud explosions, squishy noises.
That's about it. Buttrock all the way when you start to fight. Nothing that really sticks out. Dolby Pro Logic II. Something like that. There’s a Marilyn Manson song in there, too “Use Your Fist and Not Your Mouth”, good stuff.
Gameplay:
This is where the game is saved. The gameplay is a lot of fun. There are quite a few guns from standard pistols to ''Brimstone Cannons'' there are quite a few ways to splatter your enemies. You come equipped with Agony (Spawn's axe), which is only capable of a 3-hit-combo, but you can mix it up with, your axe-guns-hell powers nicely. You can double-jump, glide, use your chains (unlimited ''ammo) to pick up enemies and rip 'em apart, jump-attack, strafe, jump-strafe. The move set is really pretty nice. The ''Hell Powers'' consist of mainly a slow-motion power, a ''super-powered'' option, green ''plasma'' projectiles, a plasma ''beam'', and a few more. They’re basically throwaway powers because you could get through the whole game using just the axe and the chains.
Control:
Everything controls very nicely. Spawn is very responsive, and the strafing and gliding are easy to control. Nothing to complain about here.
That’s about it. All in all, I would recommend it if you’re into action/ hack n’ slash games. It really is a lot of fun. There’s good replayability, as well, there are a lot of comic book covers to collect, and each monster you encounter gets entered into an encylopedia you can look at when you want. There is probably around 20-30 different enemies. You can only get 100% completion if you beat the game on Easy, Normal, and Hard settings. There really isn’t that much of a challenge, even in the Hard setting, but, like I said, it’s a fun game, and that’s what matters the most.
