Beyond Good & Evil
Review by finalcross
"Reveal the conspiracies of the Government!"
Beyond Good & Evil is a great action/adventure game made by Ubisoft. This game has many elements form fighting, stealth, and collecting. When you pop in this game, you will instantly fall in love with it. Too bad that the game is short.
Story 9
When you start the game, you see your main charter Jade meditating on top of a rock. Instantly you are being attacked from an alien race. After the first battle, you learn that you can earn money with your camera by taking pictures of animals. Later you are on a quest to reveal the mysteries of your beloved government. As you can already tell, the game takes place in the future. As with any futuristic game, there are multiple races around each other. You have many friends to talk to and help you out in your quest. There are great mini games for you to play with opponents and get harder as you go along. Crystals that add up to your money called Credits. There is also another type of money called Pearls, which are used for the black-market. Then with your camera you will go hunting for animals to take pictures of. Some are simple while others are massive creatures.
Sound 7
Most of the sound effects match up pretty good and go alone with what you are doing. However some of the speech are off and do not match too well. Only some not most.
Music 9
Instantly you are introduced to great music right at the beginning of the game. Each piece of music goes right with the surroundings you are in. Some music can get you singing along while others will have you become emotional. During the time I was playing this game, I loved every part of the music. I can still remember some of the lyrics. Once you hear it you will know what I mean.
Gameplay 9
The game offers great game play. The controls are sooth on foot, but it will take a little while to get used to you hovercraft. While you are fighting you will notice that you can switch enemies with ease. The game also has some hidden fighting combos for you to find and unleash onto your opponents. The controls on foot are simple enough. X does most of the work while O is for the use of your items. Triangle is to use one of your partner’s attacks. The item menu is easy to use and easy to learn. The way they have you input numbers and letters are great and fun to use.
Rent, Buy, or Trash
Ok put it this way if it were up to me everyone who owns a PS2 will have a copy of this game. This game is great. I just recently beat the game and plan on going through it again. However, I am not in control of everyone’s preferences. So, rent it first. I strongly suggest buying it instead of renting it. I can be 95% sure that everyone who tries it will like it.
