James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing
Review by Balerophon
"Shaken+Stirred=One Hell Of A Martini!"
Opening-
This is one great title. Everything comes together so well and offers such great gameplay that i would easily call it not only the best bond game ever,(im talking to you goldeneye you have been PWNED) but the best game EVER based on a movie license. This is an action title that unlike all but one(to my knowledge) of the other bond games,is done from a third person perspective. Read on to find out more about one of the best action games to come out in quite some time.
Story-9
How is it that a game like this can have characters that i care about more than in most rpgs? Maybe its the fact that the script is only matched and possibly surpassed by the stunning voice overs. Its more than voice over its more like a cast of characters from a well written movie. here's the list-
Willem Dafoe plays Nikolai Diavolo-the big bad bond baddie
Shannon Elizabeth plays Serena ST. Germaine-An American geologist(she's basically the bond girl, every good bond story needs one and who better than Shannon)
Heidi Klum plays Dr Katya Nadanova-A scientist that may be more than she appears...
Mya plays Mya Starling-An nsa agent who is currently under cover
Richard Kiel plays WHO ELSE? JAWS BABY!. for those uninformed Richard Kiel is the person who played the real jaws in the bond movies, and happens to be James' toughest nemesis
John Cleese plays none other than-Q the brilliant inventor(DO try to bring it back in one piece 007....)
Judi Dench plays-M The head of MI6 and bonds boss
Misaki Ito plays Ms.Nagai-Q's assistant in the Q lab.
AND...
Pierce Brosnan plays-''Bond,James Bond''
And each of these people play there character perfectly. Hearing Pierce brosnan actually voice the super spy he plays in the movies is awesome and is one of the things that make this FEEL like a great bond flick, and that's only a good thing. Now the actual story opens with bond searching for Katya,a scientist and her missing nano-robot project and goes from there. i dont want to give to much away and I've spent to many words on the story but ill sum up. its engaging, entertaining and well written. like any good bond movie.
Graphics-9
The graphics are outstanding, and they are that much more impressive when there are numerous enemies, explosions, and great looking environments on screen at once with only a hint of slowdown. actually the only thing bad about the graphics are that the game suffers as many other ps2 games do from jaggies. basically rough edges around textures. but to be honest i actually LIKE the look that jaggies give a game. But i realize most people do not so i must point that out. otherwise A+.
Sound-9
Again something this game does very well. crisp and varied sound effects are thru out the whole game. from the sound of a handguns *POP POP* effect to the explosive Building crumbling roar of a tank firing its big cannon, everything sounds very good. the music is also well done and includes the bond theme and a great original opening bond song by mya. my only gripe is the song is to short. great stuff otherwise.
Control-9
This game controls like 007's Aston Martin V12-very very good. the game uses a lock on system much like syphon filter and works great. you can put your back to a wall and pick your targets from safety, and you can even fine-tune you aim by using the right analog stick to get those precious headshots. Its hard to talk of controls in this game without going on and on because there are so many things in the game to do that require different(but easily learned) control schemes. the game features a very well done rappel system and driving system that control great. my only gripe is the bad controlling helicopter you fly. while choppers are supposed to feel awkward,it just doesn't control as well as everything else.
Gameplay-10
WOW. this game is nuts. you'll, rappel down exploding buildings, chase after speeding trains, control a super tank thru Moscow, ride your Q-bike going 200 mph on a busy freeway, free fall of a cliff....it goes on and on! i cant begin to describe all the things you'll do and everything is executed PERFECTLY. with the exception of a great but awkward heli copter level the action in the game is literally draw dropping. the driving engine in the game was actually coded, by the team who did NFS-underground,which is great cause alot of the levels consist of hectic driving sequences. but lets not forget bond on foot. Q gadgets galore, duck and cover gameplay, stealth missions, like i said it goes on and on. the game may be short for some as it can be completed in about 10-15 hours but replaying the game on harder difficulties is fun and you can unlock many goodies for your efforts, such as production screens and codes like infinite ammo. There's alot in this game if you choose to access it all. Than there are Bond moments. ''secret'' parts of the game that rewards you for exploring or thinking like bond. These usually lead to very cool scenes such as massaging a girls back,to pulling a lever to send a chandelier crashing down on you foes instead of attempting to kill them in a shootout.
Overall-9
This game has very high production value and boy does it show. There's too much to put in a review so just go out and buy this sucker.
Rent\Buy?-Buy,There is Enough replay to warrant a purchase and trust me,your gonna want to see the action over and over again.
