True Crime: Streets of LA

Review by Dayzed

"Modern L.A., crime, music, and....Zombies?"

Okay, this is how the storyline goes. Your a cop on probation and you meet a woman who asks you to work for E.O.D.(Elite Operations of Defense.) Your name is Nick Kang (Wilson) who is from Japan or China, one of them doesnt matter much, and his father was a cop, one of the very best cops, but then just disappeared. There are six different endings, three bad, two good, and one perfect ending. You get a civil unrest meter and Good/Bad cop karma, all of which alter with your decisions. Nick Kang is a great, out of the ordinary, trigger happy, fighting machine. Or, you can make him a stealthy, all about accuracy, silence machine. You can do whatever you want.

Gameplay 5/10
Gameplay was not at all a strong point. The shooting mode, meh, well, not so bad. You can go into precision shooting and shoot there arms, or legs for a good cop, or head or chest for bad cop. But, in precision shooting, everything is slightly blurred and in slow motion. The driving was good, but not that great. You HAVE to use the analog sticks to turn, even if you mess with the configuration. The worst thing of all, is the combat mode. You are put in a room, with anywhere from one to six guys, and you fight. Easy, right? Wrong. All you do is mash buttons. They block you ninety five percent of the time, and it seems like the computer button mashes too. Although, you cant mess with the steering point of view, you can alter and mess with everything else. Like me, you probably will, the defalt settings are not at all great.

Gameplay 8/10
The game play was good, but sometimes hard to follow along with the very short story line. Other times you could predict what would happen in the next couple of missions. Also, all these movies and games of ''loose cannon'' or ''Cop on the edge'' is gettting old. Really old. All the missions get old, most are follow such and such or get away from such an such. A decent feature is the ability to skip a mission if you cant beat it. Sometimes you will be like, ''Why did you shoot?'', or ''Why do I have to sneak in here?'' Most of the game your left in the dark. Also, this makes me so freaking mad, the part with dragons and zombies. What does that have to do with LA? Sure, it ties in with the Chinese/Japense theme (Well, the dragon part) why in a game rated M? Let alone a game in LA!

Grapics 9/10
The graphics were good. The cars looked decently real, same with the FMVs. The only thing that is not at all acurate is the houses and people on the street. The look flat! They should of made improvements upon those, but still great graphics.

Sound 4/10
Sound, sound, sound. What to say about the sound. Well first of all, if you dont like rap, forget this game. There is one radio station with only rap. Rap doesnt bother me, but it gets old. Fast. Then, with the car crashes, it sounds more like two glass bottles lightly tapping each other. The only realy good thing about the sound is turning it off. Although, the reason I didnt give it a one or a two is because some one might like rap. Or, well, um two glass bottles hitting each other......

Replay Value/Length 8/10
Replay value is great. There are six different endings, all diferent. There are three bad endings, two normal/good, and one perfect ending. The Length is another thing. The perfect ending takes the longest to finish, and thats about two or three days if its you first time playing ever. Only about a day on your second time around.... Also, the game gets old, as I said before, you follow such and such or get away from such and such so much it's not even funnny.

Recommendation/Overall
I bought this game and was thinking it would last me a long time and I wouldnt have to buy a new game for a while, like Vice City. It didn't. Rent it for one-two weeks and you will be complete with 6 possible endings. But, please, by all means, if you want it, go ahead. But ask for it as a gift. It will save you money, and if you dont like it, sell it on ebay! No, just joking aobut the ebay part, if you buy it, you'll love it, you'll just wish it was a lot longer. I can't stress this part enough, ohh, yes I can, I'll try bold, Do not buy the game just because you dont like rap or you dont like Zombies or Dragons. It is a great game, just with some flaws.

So. overall, great, common, gore filled game with, well, stupid zombies and dragons. And Demons. Dont forget those.
