Seven Samurai 20XX
Review by fangboy
"Poor use of Samurais"
I checked out this game at the store and found it interesting on the back, when I rented it at the store.. and thank god that I did, It was one of the most pointless horrible game ever. If Akira Kurosawa the original creator of Seven Samurai saw this game, he would be rolling in his grave right now. This game has NOTHING to do with Seven Samurai by Akira Kurosawa.
Story
So far I failed to see a story, I'm half way through the game and I can't seem to find a plot-line whatsoever.
Graphics Graphic really isn't important, but there's a limit on how bad it could get... The game itself is suppose to have anime-style graphics combined with 3D... but it ends up lookling like PSX graphics with more fluid motion. Not to mention that the enviroment feels very plain and dull with just drawings and no effects. You cannot change the camera angle, so at times you might just miss your opponent because you can't see ANYTHING at all and exploration would be harder because you tend to miss more things when walls block your vision.
Gameplay Ok,If Chaos Legion and Dynasty Warriors combined into one game, this would be it... you would think it's a good combination.. but it isn't.
This game continues with it's traditional mash the "Square" button to constantly attack your opponent, "Triangle" to jump, and the other two buttons are pretty non-existant.. however you can activate a more powerful stance, by pressing two buttons on top of the controller.
The gameplay also stops becoming completely action and become more of a exploration game, where you talk to people and go into buildings....
Sound
Let's start with the fact that you cannot change the language at all, you're set with english... being a "Samurai" type game, you would expect a Japanese audio track. The voice acting is extremely bad that it sounds like it's from a 80's anime series, I can't turn down the sound completely... the music is rather nice, it has a nice beat and rhythm to it.. tho I wish it gave it a more traditional japanese feel with a remix.
Conclusion
A horrible game indeed with dull storyline, bland graphics, and with controls that can get boring after 3 hours of gameplay. This game isn't worth a rental.
The term 'Samurai' means more than just hacking enemies to bits and pieces, it has a deeper meaning... I find the movie 'Last Samurai' more interesting and fit the term 'Samurai' much better than this game.
I wish this game could've been better.
