Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Review by Jiyu Aifu
"The Green Destiny is Your Destiny"
Crouching Tiger,
Hidden Dragon
You loved the movie, you'll love the game. In the game you progress through the movie from each character's point of view. So, it's like you are actually playing the movie.
Gameplay- 8
The gameplay is great. You play through the story as Jen, Yu Shu Lien, and Li Mu Bai, completing each of their stories. Encounter people from the movie like "Dark Cloud" Lo, General Tsai, his daughter, Bo, and even Jade Fox. Master many stunning martial arts moves. There are different moves for each character so that gives you more and more attacks to master. There are also several different weapons, including swords, sabres, spears, axes, maces, and even the Green Destiny. Lots of high-flying action. Perform impossible stunts like running up walls or jumping and then gliding through the air. There's so much fighting in this game, your head will spin and thats a good thing. Fight dozens of enemies like bandits, guards, and even main characters. There's lots of things to unlock. Like film clips, alternate costumes, mini-games, and even Lo's story. Replay events from the movie, like Li Mu Bai's first fight with Jade Fox, Jen's restaurant encounter, and even Shu Lien and Jen's encounter at the dojo.
Graphics- 7
Let's put it this way. You can see everything clearly. The game doesn't have awesome graphics like most people expect games to have, but graphics aren't everything. However, they are pretty good and it really makes it more enjoyable with all the stunts you can perform.
Sound- 9
I love Chinese music. And you will too with this game because the sound is really great, just like in the movie. And it's not the same music for every area, it changes and even changes when you are in a fight with enemies.
Story- 9
If you saw the movie, then you know what to expect, if not, then the story is great. Play as an aristocrat daughter trying to gain freedom (Jen, A swordswoman trying to resist her love for another because of a previous engagement she had (Shu Lien), and a Wudan swordsman trying to find a worthy pupil to pass on his knowledge to so he can retire with the one he loves (Mu Bai).
Replayability- 9
With so many different things to unlock, fun gameplay, and a short playthrough, this game has excellent replay value. Especially for those of you who feel the need to get everything in a game.
Overall- 8
My overall score for this game is an 8. I reached this score by finding the average of my score for each of the areas I scored.
This is quite an underrated game and deserves to have more people experience its quality. I have a thing for these kind of games so if you're a little skeptical about this game, at least try it. And for $20, I guarantee you'll love it.
