Def Jam: Fight for NY
Review by masterchief375
"Rappers, Music, 5 Fightin' styles and so much more."
Def Jam Fight for NY is the sequel to last years Def Jam Vendetta. If you thought Vendetta was good, Fight for NY is going to blow your mind. Def Jam is back with new modes, a deeper story mode, new characters, and best of all a create a fighter mode. Fight for NY is a great game. Here's my review:
Story 10 of 10: The game starts off where the first one left off. D-Mobb has been defeated and his reign of power has ended. D-Mobb is arrested and is about to be taken to prison. This is where you come in, as the police car is pulling off an SUV hits the cop car and flips it. Your character pulls D-Mobb out of the wreckage and you escape in your SUV. The game takes you to a screen where you can create a fighter ( or choose from five pre-made fighters.) You must earn back all D-Mobb's clubs by fighting Crow's fighters. Crow runs his own crew of fighters who you must defeat. Crow is played by Snoop Dogg. The story goes through many twists that will keep you on edge.
Controls 10 of 10: The controls are a little different. The controls might take a couple minutes to get used to. The game also has it so that you can change the controls to fit your style. There are few controls that are the same. The left analog stick is to move around, X is to grapple, Square is to kick, triangle is to punch, and if you hold L1 and grapple than press X or Triangle you can to a move that can deal plenty of damage. Right analog stick is to activate your Blazin' or "Special" move.
Gameplay 10 of 10: The gameplay is what makes or breaks a game. The gameplay is really deep. The create a fighter move is the deepest I've ever seen in a game. You can choose many looks for your character. You can change his hair, hair color, what clothes he wears (if any) what jewelery he wears and all that great stuff. You can choose from 5 fighting styles, Kickboxing, wrestling, streetfighting, submission, or martial arts. At the beginning of the game you can choose one fighting style for free. The other ones you have to buy with your developement points. If combined correctly you will make a different fighting style. During matches you can pick up items like bottle and bats etc, or the crowd will give them to you. The crowd will either help you or get you seriously hurt. Ex: if your opponent throws you into the crowd a fan can grab and hold you and you will get double teamed. The only fault in gameplay is the crushing difficulty. The computer can block a lot of moves even grapples and at times this can feel pretty cheap. After you are defeated a number of times you will get used to fighting your opponent better. Besides the difficulty the games is pretty good.
Overall 10 of 10
Buy or Rent? Rent first because if wrestling or fighting games isn't your thing you might not want to try it. If your a fan of the first one go out and buy it. Peace Out!
