Mortal Kombat: Deception
Review by REmanZ
"Mortal Kombat: Deception should not be missed!"
Mortal Kombat has always been under heavy controversy due to the fact that it contained so much blood and gore, and had people killing other people. Fans of the genre will already know that Fatalities and the blood what makes Mortal Kombat well, Mortal Kombat. This series has also been running for about ten years, and Ed Boon and the rest of the Team show no sign of letting up.
STORY 10/10: The story for this game comes right after the fifth installment Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. In my own opinion, the story of these games just keeps getting better and better. Mortal Kombat: Deception is one of the few fighting games to have such an unique story line that it just blows just about everything out of the water. You'll learn in the first five minutes of this game what makes the story so good.
The only lacking part, however, is that no one knows the next storyline for the already announced Mortal Kombat 7.
GAMEPLAY 8/10: Even though that I hate to admit it, there are some major glitches in this game that even the casual gamer has to look out for. The Fighting-System is fun, with the ability to switch between two different Fighting Styles, and one Weapon Style -- All different for every character -- but, the characters are characterized as Broken. Meaning that all the characters have at least one way of infinite throws and combos, or having 50/50 Mix ups. These glitches however, do not affect normal gameplay against the computer, and you'll be enjoying hours of playing.
This game also includes Konquest mode. This mode allows you the chance to play as a young Shujinko, he must go on a journey to find the Kamidogu in order to stop the destruction of Earthrealm. It's a fun RPG that'll last you a good 5 hours of completing. Puzzle Kombat, which plays a lot like Tetris also has a fun Mortal Kombat spin to it. After you defeat the enemy in Puzzle Mode, an instant Fatality is preformed! And the last mode is Chess Kombat, with a mixture of Spells and green power-blocks to aid you. Very, very entertaining.
This also includes an advanced version of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance's Krypt. With less Koffins to unlock, it really is a lot easier to unlock all of them this time around. Also, gaining Koins -- What you need to open the Koffins -- is also a lot easier.
GRAPHICS 10/10: The graphics for this game are just outstanding. They have really improved over it's predecessor, Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. With sharp visuals with every character, it's hard to tell that it's really a game and not a real fight. The Arena's are also visually attractive. Well polished and textured that there are no flaws in the Arena's. Also, there is no slow down at all. Most of the common games at least have a little bit of slow down, but Mortal Kombat: Deception shows none at all. And the fact that every character gets up a different way is also pleasing. For example, Scorpion falls to the ground, he would then take out his spear, throw it to the wall to get up again. The 10 I give this truly gets it's award.
SOUND 10/10: I picked up this game hoping that every character will at least have their own voices, and, sure enough, they did. Every individual character has their own set of voices. Their grunts, Oof's, and whatever sounds that they may might make have their own tone. You can actually tell that Midway really wanted to make this Mortal Kombat game the best. The sounds of the character's weapons clashing together always sounds the way that they should. Even when they break through walls it seems real.
The voice acting in this game is also done very well, for every ending has a voice-over. And in Konquest Mode, every character that you meet has their own voice and speaks to you. No reading! It's all voiced!
The music playing in the background during all the different modes and matches is also very detailed. There is even a Soundtrack that you can unlock so you can hear all the music without the need of going through the randomness. Midway definitely spent a lot of money in this department for the Composers and the Music Editors. Well done fella's, this also deserves it's 10.
REPLAY VALUE 9/10: High. Very, very high. You can spend hours upon hours trying to get all the different Koins that you need to unlock all the different Koffins. You'll also never get done playing the different modes. Endless hours of Puzzle Kombat I've wasted with my friends whenever we got bored. Also, getting all of the character's endings is well worth it, so you can get a glimpse of what Mortal Kombat 7 will be like.
OVERALL 9/10: All in all, this is a great game, and it shouldn't be missed. If you don't own a copy of Mortal Kombat: Deception, go get one now! Despite it's flaws however, you will not be disappointed with it -- Even the PSP has it's flaws. You'll truly be missing out if you don't buy this game. Go. Go buy it now.
Rent or Buy? - Definitely buy! Buying is a must!
