Mega Man X: Command Mission
Review by Xenobi
"It doesn't deserve the right to be called a MMX game, but its a good RPG none the less."
Mega Man X:Command mission is one of the "Love it or hate it" rpgs, much like Grandia 1 & 2. If you are a fan of hard games, you will surely love this one. If you are a fan of cell shaded graphics, you will surely love this game. If you are a fan of deep stories, or intricate plot twists...well....you might want to stay away.
MMX:CM starts out with X, Zero, and Shadow being sent to an island called "Giga City" to strike down a rebellion uprising. After several discoveries of Maverick pods (pods used to create and incubate mavericks until ready to be released) that have been opened, and their contents released. Where are these mavericks? Who created them? All will be answered (and more) in MMX:CM.
Difficulty: 9
Hardest rpg I've played in a LONG time. It very nearly parallels the Dragon Quest series in diffculty. Many of the bosses will have you screaming in frustration at how hard they are to defeat. For the first time in a long while, you actually have to use STRATEGY to defeat some of those bosses. Now how about that. An rpg where you can't just go in and unleash your strongest attacks! Who would have thought?
Although, the game does start to get easier as you move along. Its possible to beat the game around level 25, whereas the max level is 99.
Graphics: 8
Capcom did an excellent job with the cel shaded graphics in this game. The new look of X is spectacular, and so are his environments. Where the graphics do fall short are the sometimes bland envrionments, and the flat colors
Story: 4
Story is where this game really faulters. Its predictible from the first chapter of what's pretty much going to happen. Work your way to bad guys, defeat them, etc. I don't want to spoil anything else, but you can probably figure it out on your own
Characters: 5
You have your standard (and bad ass) X and Zero, the odd Axl, and a cast of characters that shouldn't be there, outside of Spyder. Spyder if anything, redeems the entire storyline of this game, and is the saving grace of it. Many characters such as Maximo and Cinnamon are fairly pointless, and could have gone without joining your party. Maximo is easily outdone in damage by Axl, Zero, and Spyder. You can make it through the entire game without healing that much, which renders Cinnamon useless. Marino falls victim to the same problems that Maximo has.
Overall, if you can find this game used, i'd suggest to pick it up. The story + extras is enough to hold you over for 20-25 hours, but you probably won't play through the game again.
