TimeSplitters: Future Perfect
Review by Gaseous Snake
"Timesplitters: Future Perfect. Perfect indeed."
I'd heard many good things about Timesplitters: Future Perfect, but I had one real reservation about buying it. I hated Timesplitters 2 to the point that I wrote a review of it for this website, in which I gave it 3/10 much to the dismay of 90% of people who decided that the review was of no use to them in deciding whether or not they should purchase the game or not. Despite my feelings towards the previous game, I walked down to my local HMV Store and purchased Timesplitters for a wallet breaking £30. Was it worth it?
Graphics (8/10)
Before analysing the graphics on the game, I must stress the point that Timesplitters is not about graphics. Where games like Metal Gear Solid use the sheer realism of their graphics as a selling point, Timesplitters does not. The game's graphics are above average, but nothing special. You don't have trouble recognising what different objects are meant to be and the general fast-paced action of the game means that you really don't pay any attention to the graphics.
Sounds (9/10)
Convincing.
Gameplay (10/10)
The sheer variety of modes on this game is enough to keep you occupied for months. The single player story is captivating, with a witty script, interesting challenges and a variety of characters to encounter and venues to tackle. Online play is always a bonus, even if I'm so poor at it that in my first game I went 0/15! Despite my inability to play it, I found it fun and a welcome break from other potentially stressful online games such as Socom 2. The different challenges are good fun, but the inclusion of a series of monkey challenges including monkey curling makes this game a complete winner and one I refused to put down.
Replay Value (9/10)
I would put 10/10, but you will EVENTUALLY get bored of it. I don't know when, but after playing it for about 7 hours a day for a year, you may tire of it. However, with online play, different challenges on different levels of difficulty, online play, and monkey curling, one must ask the question: WILL I get bored with this game?
Overall (9/10)
A wonderful game. A recommended purchase for anyone. Even if you hated Timesplitters 2, I can sincerely recommend a purchase.
