Gran Turismo 4
Review by cloud78
"Who needs a drivers license?"
Who needs a drivers license when you have Gran Turismo 4? Gran Turismo 4 is the most realistic driving experience ever. The car physics are beyond amazing. Did you know that professional race car drivers were asked to test the game out? One driver commented, "If I had my helmet on I would have thought I was really driving". Its that real. Dont get me wrong. Its amazingly fun. Thats right. A realistic motorsports game that is FUN.
Gameplay 10/10
The car physics are amazing. Unlike other racing games you can actually see the car shift weight during turns in Gran Turismo 4. You can see the tires bounce in the hills. The car fights for the center. Ever wanted to experiance driving a Nissan Skyline at 150 mph in the Nurbering? Well now you can.
Not only is it realistic, its fun. You will be racing hard and you will feel exhausted after a race
( I'm not kidding). You will have to block your opponents, try to stick your nose under the guy in front of you, and keep the car from spinning out while turning going 180 mph. Do that for 10 laps and your ass will be looking for a Gatorade. I am assuming you will be using the Driving Force Pro right? Dont know what the Driving Force Pro is? Well, logitech decided to make a special wheel for Gran Turismo 4. Polyphony Digital and Logitech have teamed up. The makers of Gran Turismo 4 and the designers of logitech teamed up to make the Logitech Driving Force Pro. DFP for short. This wheel is the best racing wheel ever. Without Gran Turismo 4 the DFP would be nothing. Without the DFP, Gran Turismo 4 would be nothing. Get what I'm saying? The bottom line is Gran Turismo 4's gameplay kicks ass.
Graphics 11/10
Yep. 11/10. The graphics are too good. You forget you are playing a game sometimes. This game without a doubt has the best graphics on a ps2 game. Dont believe me? Check out some screen shots on the web. Everything from rim details to smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. Not only do the cars look photo real. The background does too. The trees, pavement, dirt, spectators. Everything. You can even see mirages racing on sunny tracks. The night races look awesome too.
Sound 9/10
Very good music. Long playlist. Over 60 songs. Bands include Jimmy Eat World, Jet, Papa Roach, The Donnas, etc. Songs that will get your heart pumping for the race.
Engine noises are great too. You can hear the engine very realisticly rev before the start of a race. You can hear the car moan when changing gears. The sounds are very crisp. Three words. Get Surround Sound. Holy crap the sound in this game is tight!
Extras 10/10
From upgrades to your car to racing on tracks all over the world. This game owns at it. It has more extras then George W. Bush has enemies. There are THOUSANDS of upgrades you can give your car. Different spoilers, rims, transmission, engines, engine polishes, racing chips, drivetrains, exhaust pipes, nitrous, body kits, chasis, suspensions, the list goes on and on. Did I mention there are 750 cars? Thats right 750 cars! From all around the world! There will be cars you have been dying to drive all your life and there will be cars you have never ever heard of in your whole entire life.
On top of that there are also license tests you have to pass during simulation mode. These tests are kind of hard. But they are there for a purpose. So you can learn to drive better. It is a blast.
There are all kinds of race tracks in Gran Turismo 4 also. 52 tracks actually. And that is not including driving around them backwards. If you include the reverse tracks you would have 104 tracks! Some tracks are: Seoul Central, Tokyo Route 246, Hong Kong, Tsukuba, Nurburgring Nordschleife, Grand Canyon, Ice Arena, Tahiti Maze, El Capitan, and many more.
There are over 200 races to race. Whether you are playing simulation mode or arcade mode the races will keep coming. There are even 24 hour endurance races. Not 24 hours game time. 24 hours real time! If you want to finish this race you will have to pull an all nighter. Gran Turismo 4 just keeps sounding better.
Features 10/10
There are too many things in this category for me to list so I will just name a few. One new feature is B-Spec mode. b-Spec mode is where the computer drives for you. You just tell it when to pit and stuff like that. This comes in handy in 24 hour races. Another feature is being able to fine tune your car before the race. You can adjust everything about your car in this feature. Even more realism delivered by GT4.
Replay Value 10/10
With everything i just stated above its kind of obvious this game will keep you busy for months. If you want to be true champion, complete all the races, get gold on all license tests and unlock all the cars. The tell me how long it took you! Probably 8 months.
Overall 10/10
Gran Turismo 4 is just amazing.
As Confucious once said, "Get Gran Turismo 4 or just jump off a bridge and die".
Case Closed.
