Lego Star Wars
Review by Def Freak7
"Could be one of the biggest sleeper hits!"
Now be honest. When you hear "Lego Star Wars" you think of a cheap cash-in on a big license. Well, surprisingly this game is very good. While it's definitely aimed for the kids, adults can have tons of fun with this one.
GRAPHICS: 7/10
Since the title is "Lego Star Wars", everything's made completely out of Legos. From the characters and environments, to the vehicles. While it's very cool to retell the Star Wars story with Legos, these aren't the best looking graphics anyway. They don't look very polished and some bugs unfortunately plagued my copy. The other good thing with the graphics, though, is how they're able to make a serious situation humorable with Legos. It's such a crazy idea that it'll probably work for kids. For those of you who love sweet looking graphics, this one may not be for you.
SOUND: 10/10
John Williams is my favorite composer. 'Nuff said. All of the sound effects are pretty authentic to the Star Wars universe. They've got the "Pew pew pew" blaster sound and the "wooowoowoowoowooo" lightsaber sound. The sound does a very good job of immersing you in the story, but there's no voice-acting, which may or may not be a good thing. But all in all, the music of John Williams seals the deal for me.
STORY: SPOILER/10
You can play through Episode I, II, and III. This means you can pretty much play this game and know what happened in Episode III for the most part. If you really wanna see the movie, wait to buy this game.
GAMEPLAY: 10/10
This is a big surprise. I thought that this game would stink in this area, but it didn't. The controls are simple enough to pick up and play, but also very addicting and fun. While this game isn't hard in the least, it's very fun. You can use the force powers, lightsabers, blasters, and vehicles in this game, which all handle great. In the end, this game really proves to be a fun addicting experience.
MULTIPLAYER: 9/10
Take the gameplay and multiply it by 2. Even though it would have been really nice to see some online play. Another great area.
REPLAYABILITY: 4/10
OUCH!!! This game will only take about 5 or 6 hours to complete through the story. While there are characters to unlock and other studs to affect the game, it really stinks that this game couldn't have been longer.
FINAL SUMMARY:
This game is definitely one of the biggest surprises this year. Look for this one to make an appearance at award shows.
