Jak 3
Review by PS2Joey
"This game is a masterpiece."
Introduction
The conclusion of the Jak series is perfect. All plot holes are answered, and the ending is perfect. This game's storyline is great, almost as good as Final Fantasy. The graphics are also some of the best on the PS2. The music gets you really into the game, and is very well put together. The voice overs are great as well. The game play is very, very fun, and will not get repetitive at all. In short, this game is perfect in every category.
Story
The story line in this game is very good. It starts off with Jak and Daxter getting kicked out of Haven City, and banished in the desert. The story line gets really good as you go on. All of the plot holes are filled in this one. There are also some plot twists in there. It will get so good that you won't be able to wait until the next cut scene, even if you usually just skip them, like I do. You normally would not see this great of a storyline in a plat former. Overall, this game's story line is great.
Graphics
This game looks great. Jak 3's graphics are great in just about every way. It looks good from the cool looking characters, to the very unique and detailed looking level, even the vehicles look great. The cut scenes are some of the best in the video game world, if not the best. Another great addition to this games already great looks, is that Naughty Dog put rag doll physics in this game. You can have fun blasting enemies in a different place every time and watching them fall just as they did in real life. The graphics in this game are some of the best for the PS2.
Sound
This game sounds great. The voice acting in this game is very, very good just like the rest of the series. It has all of the same voice actors as before, with the exception of a couple, so it should be as good as before. The soundtrack is also great. The music in all of the different levels fit perfectly. They get you really into the game too. Therefore, this game sounds great.
Control
The controls in this game are perfect. They are kind of a cross between a platformer and a first person shooter. It has the platforming controls like X to jump, and square to punch, etc. It has first person controls like R1 to shoot. This odd combination of controls actually works very well, and they are pretty easy to get used to.
Game Play
This games game play is just like Jak 2. This time there are more weapons though. There are four types of weapons, the Scatter gun, the Blaster, the Vulcan Fury, and the Peace Maker. Each one has three variations which makes a total of twelve guns. Each one is unique. The Scatter gun shoots in a wider radius, thus hurting more enemies at once. The Blaster focuses on one enemy with precise aim. The Vulcan Fury shoots very fast and is good for clearing out enemies quickly. Lastly, the Peace Maker shoots electrifying shots that can be very deadly. All of these weapons are cool and fun to use.
There are also tons of vehicles in this game. Each one is very unique. For example, there is one that jumps really, really high. There is also another one that goes extremely fast. Also, almost all of the vehicles are equipped with their own type of gun. For example, one of them has a rocket, but another has dual machine guns. You can probably tell which one is better. There are also some races in this game, but only a few. The ones in Jak 3 aren't as good as the ones from Jak II though. Overall, the vehicles are very fun in this game.
The mission system is back again, this time it's even better. There are a lot of different types of missions in this game. There are ones where you have to win a race. There are ones where you have to explore an area. Some that you have to save people, etc. With all of these different types of missions, this game won't get repetitive for a long time.
Collectibles
There are tons of collectibles in this game. You will spend hours trying to collect all of the precursor orbs. All of your work will be paid off to. The stuff you can buy with the precursor orbs are amazing. You can upgrade your weapons, buy vehicles, or just some other random stuff. Collecting these things are well worth it.
Replay Value
The replay value in this game is pretty good. The missions will not get boring for a couple months. You will probably spend a long time collecting the precursor orbs too. After you beat the game you can play hero mode. With this you can beat the game again except with all of your weapons and stuff. Therefore, this game has great replay value
Final Recommendation
You should definitely buy this game as it's one of the best for the PS2.
