Cold Winter

"An honest review of Cold Winter..."

From the the moment I started playing this, I was thinking "ok, another standard FPS".... which its is. However, CW is a GOOD FPS. When I saw the first pistol blasts to the NPC's, I was hooked. But it is more of the same old, but at the same time is very innovative. Here's my review......

Story-8/10

You assume the role of Andrew Sterling, a disavowed secret agent who has been deployed on a series of objective-based missions that span 8 different enviroments, from Hong-Kong to England and even the Middle East. I havent beaten the game yet, but the story is pretty solid and it has a few twists along the way. I'll leave it up to you if you want to find out, but it is pretty good.

Graphics-9/10

Wow. One of the best looking shooters I've played so far. Everything runs very smooth, and the blood effects are awesome. I would have prefered lasting bulletholes and a tad more gore, but other than those minor drawbacks its great. I also like the detail they put into the AI. Prisoners in cells will awaken when they sense your presense and mock you or cower in fear. Pretty cool.

Gameplay-10/10

This is where CW shines IMO. The button layout is pretty much the same as other shooters and is very easy to pick up. (and by the way, the first time you see him use the medi-kit is awesome..lol) You can also combine items to make new weapons, food, or even keys. I think this was a great idea and is even challenging at times in itself. One of the only problems i have is with the targeting. When you zoom in, it doesnt seem very far and its a little bit disorienting, but still tolerable. In all truth, this game reminds me of Halo in a way. Play and you will see. Plus its online enabled with the headset so all you bored Killzone players can rejoice.

Final Score-8/10

CW is for true FPS fans. If ur a casual FPS'er who plays for only buckets of guts and blood, this isnt for you. But if you want a enjoyable shooter with considerable replay value, this is for you. Buy or Rent? I bought and I dont feel cheated, so give it a try, and if you like it, then buy. You wont be dissapointed.
