Star Wars: Battlefront
Review by supervegeta37
"Good, some cool stuff, but kinda broken."
I will not rate this game using the usual system where you give points for seperate things such as "Graphics." In most cases, graphics are not important. They are only important when the affect gameplay, like when you can't see a switch or you find it hard to tell two NPCs apart. That said, let us begin.
I'm not gonna bother explaining Star Wars to you. You already know about that. This game is like a FPS game, except you are just one of the soldiers in a battle. You basically run around a battlefield trying to make your side win the battle.
You can win by either taking all the enemies command posts, which are taken by having you or one of the other troops stand at them with no enemies around for a while. Or you can simply kill off the opposition.
You can do some cool things like ride any speed bikes, ships, mounts, or whatever is nearby. Everytime you spawn, you pick the outpost you wanna spawn at, and you pick the type of character you wanna be. You can pick from various things like pilot, sniper, demolitions, etc. It's quite fun rolling around as a Droideka, standing turning your sheilds on, and blowing the enemy away.
The are a few modes of play. There is a story mode, 'Galactic Conquest' where you conquer a galaxy, and Instant Action. Galactic Conquest is the best. You attack various planets and gain special planetary bonuses like regeneration or spawning Darth Vader.
There is a split-screen multiplayer mode which features co-op and competitive gameplay. And there is an online play mode, and you can play over a LAN connection. (For those who like having LAN parties.) I remember gaurding a base, and after a while, a sniper killed me, and it was my friend setting right next to me.
You can either love or hate the music. Hate, if you are sick of hearing the same 10 John Williams scores again and again. Love, if you just like Star Wars music, or haven't played enough Star Wars games to get sick of it.
Having explained everything, allow me to answer the question, "Is it fun?" (All that matters with video games.)
Well I feel gameplay to be a bit broken. You have 150 troops, they have 150 troops. Roll some dice and see whether or not your side is going to be good enough. If so, wait till you win. If not, try to change fate, but lose anyway 80% of the time.
It will be better over the net I imagine. And I know it's a lot more fun playing it on split-screen mode. But the game still needs some work. A lot of Lucas Arts games are like that, but I wont get into that now.
So the game as some cool things like being able to walk up to a landspeeder on split-screen, getting your friend to get in as co-pilot, yout friend hitting a AT-AT with a tow cable, and you buzzing around it. But, it still needs work.
So I give this game a 6.
