Ys III: Wanderers from Ys

"If only this game played as nice as it looks I might give it a 5"

Graphics :

The game has a very clean look over the SNES (which I barely remember) so there is a definite plus. Depending on the area you're in the game zooms in which really shows the very nice 2D sprite done for Adol and enemies. Backgrounds are simple, one layered in most cases, but are enough to suit the areas. Overall though at times the games appears to have a very empty look to it. e.g. A long room with one small platform in middle with no enemies:) doesn't make sense. One other little thing is the anime stills they have for character dialogue are pretty cheap and low budget looking. No where near the quality of the Ys I and II remakes ::sigh::

Gameplay :

The game play has been improved over SNES ver by a lot but still I find myself getting aggrovated with the lack of control over adol vs. the enemies at times. Adol can jump, duck, run and slash in multiple directions but there are situations in the levels where i feel like im playing a old megaman game where its impossible to dodge a attack you just have to take the hit and kill them before they get you. The game has rings that do different things as well that help out at times but overall really arent that useful or help build a good strategy. Overall the gameplay is very simple, just like the whole game, so its acceptable.

Difficulty :

This game is too easy. Plain and simple. I beat it first time through on hard at 2hr and 30min. The enemies on the way to the bosses present more of a threat than the bosses actually do. Main way to beat the bosses= Equip Power Ring and hit them a couple times. Wow you won! Its that simple.

Replay :

This game will forever collect dust on the shelf.

Overall :

This game is not worth buying. I payed $40 for it and I still regret it. If your friend has it I'm sure they'll let you beat it while they make themselves a sandwich or something... But otherwise pass it up. Play the Ys I II remake, or the IV remake or even Naptishm. It's a shame thats its called Ys:( IO gave it a 2 just because of the graphics and the fact it wasted the time before I had to go to work:)
