Lego Star Wars
Review by ryanm32
"Such an adorable little game to keep your weekend fun and lighthearted"
This is the best Star Wars game ever made. Bold? Yes, but very much true. This game needs to be respected beyond its addictive and entertaining gameplay, and also for its very clever iteration and style of telling the Star Wars story. The cute humor and graphic layout are neat and creative.
STORY
We all know the story, or atleast diehard Star wars viewers do. I want to explain how the story is depicted here, and it is done a tad weak. There is no dialogue, which is not that bad, for it fits in with how the creators want the game displayed. Long dragged scenes from the movie are cut into tiny short little clips, with humor and jazz thrown in. The frequent videos are mildly entertaining yet necessary. They may be lame but each one is cute and fitting in the Star wars universe being told here.
GAMEPLAY
Senseless running is even made fun here. Joining up and battling through various Star Wars locals is insanely and surprisingly entertaining on many levels. There are an unreal amount of characters. Everyone even remotely worth playing, are playable in this game. My biggest complaint, and why this game did not get a 10, is that the great and addicting experience earned in this game is short lived. 17 levels, about 15-20 minutes in length for each one, are over too soon. Many more scenes from the three episodes could have been added, and more could have been exaggerated in the universe. Everything seems to go way too fast, and before you know it, your battling your final foe. The experience is short but great while it lasts. This game never gets repetitive, which may come as a surprise to many. There are racing levels and space shooting levels to mix up the on foot battles. But even these do not get repetitive. Another worthy mention, are the controls, which are respectable but not great. A bit unresponsive at times, and lagging. But with a faster more agility oriented character, the controls can be overlooked. The two player option is also a fun addition, and you may find even more enjoyment to be had in this mode.
GRAPHICS
There not great, either but graphics have never been a main draw to a title in this genre. For what Eidos and Traveller's Tales have set out to do graphically, they have accomplished. The framerate is smooth, and acceptable. The entire game is colorful and overly pretty too look at. It is no Splinter Cell, but many people going into this game were not expecting it to be.
FINAL THOUGHTS?
The fast paced varying amounts of entertainment I got from this game, more than makes up for the lack in graphics. There are so many characters and unlockables here, that a good strong weekend to a week will be dedicated to unlocking everything. I recommend this game for atleast a rental. the rent will be completely worth it, and depending on your love for the little game, you may end up owning a copy on your shelf in no time at all.
