The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction
Review by nabuch
"Good, but highly overated"
While this is a good and decent sized game, it is far from the masterpiece you may be looking for. Expect too much and you will be sorely disappointed, don't expect a lot and you will be pleasantly surprised.
GRAPHICS: 5/10 Clearly the worst element in the game. I would rate this even lower, but the explosions are nice, and there will be a lot of them. While the game itself has no graphical problems, that may only be because it could easily pass for a first generation PS one game.
MUSIC/SOUND: 7/10 The music is nice but totally forgettable, however, it does fit the game nicely. Sound effects are very good, and so is the voice acting. There are some pretty funny remarks in the game, but you will here them over and over again.
CAMERA/CONTROL: 9/10 The controls are simple to use and the camera is near perfect, so that you very seldom even have to use the right stick to move it. Combos are very easy to pull off, and in no time at all you will get the hang of all the Hulk can do.
GAME PLAY: 7/10 The game play is rather varied, but can still become repetitive. In the main game there are 30 totally linear missions. There are also 40 optional missions, mostly timed. The faster you do them, the more smash points you get. Smash points are used to buy moves, and more moves become available as you get farther into the game, and they are expensive. Everything in the world is breakable but only worth one or two smash points; however, if you explore totally you will come across yellow orbs worth 2,000 points each. Further exploration will find hint markers and comic book covers. One thing I do not like is how hard it is to know where you are and where you have been in order to find everything, complicated by the fact that the things you destroy do not stay destroyed( I guess the army has men on call at all times to rebuild). When in a mission the air force may come after you, and that can hurt, but complete the mission and explore at your leisure because regular guns do no damage. Missions in the game are primarily, get to the end; and optional ones are more varied, like save civilians before the building burns to the ground.
VALUE: 8/10 If you are the kind of player who wants to finish as fast as possible, this score is not for you. If you are really good at this sort of game, do not bother exploring at all, do none of the optional missions, know exactly what to do at all times, do not smash up the city at all, and play on easy difficulty, you can finish in about ten hours, maybe, after all there are six bosses that you may not be able to beat without the right moves. For those of us who like to explore and find everything and get all gold medals in the optional quests, this is a good 30-50 hours. There are 60 comic book covers, and lots of hint markers which unlock game cheat codes, and 150 moves to purchase. I am not that good at this kind of game so I am playing the easy difficulty level, and have yet to get a gold medal, though bronze is very easy( I think you just have to finish the mission, no matter how long it takes). and silver is hard ,but not too hard.
FINAL COMMENTS: This is a good game, just not another "God of War", so just know what you are getting. This is well worth the money if you, like me, are a complete-ist; otherwise, you may just want to rent it.
