Battlestar Galactica
Review by Zanetsuken
"A game that had potential"
Battlestar Galactica is a game that was full of potential but let that potential walk right out the window. The game is a space simulation where you take the role as a young Viper pilot named Adama. The Colonial Humans are at war with the machines called Cylons. The Cylons want to destroy the human race but have difficulty because of the Colonial warships called Battlestars. Adama is a rookie pilot freshly assigned to the Battlestar Galactica who will have to overcome a great number of trials in order to protect his comrades.
Here are my ratings:
Music: 2/10
Honesty, the soundtrack is rather dull and uninspiring. The only reason this even has a number score is because of the use of the old theme star from the TV series.
Characters: 6/10
Only two characters are from the original series, Cain and Adama. This gives us a whole new cast of characters and once again potential is wasted. There is not much backstory given for any of the new characters and honesty not that much development at all with the exception of Adama.
Cutscenes: 10/10
The cutscenes before each stage are absolutely beautiful. Watching the Vipers duke it out with Cylon Raiders is a testament to this games graphics.
In-Game Graphics: 8/10
The in-game graphics are honesty not that bad in my opinion. For the most part every fighter and ship is well detailed. However, in some of the environments you fight in the colors used makes it fairly difficult to tell what is going on, but that just adds to the games difficulty.
Plot: 5/10
Another great potential wasted. It would have been nice to have some backstory between characters and go in-depth on some of the backstory between the humans and cylons. I know it's a fighter game but more plot would have helped immensely. The plot centers around Adama becomming the man he has to be for the future, where he will lead a rag-tag fugitive fleet on a quest for Earth. This is the same Adama that will later command the Battlestar Galactica during the TV series(1970's).
Gameplay and Difficulty: 6/10
This fighters in this game have the exact opposite of the fighters in Star Trek: Shattered Universe. In ST:SU the fighters are very sluggish and not very responsive, the exact opposite is true here. Your fighter is very fast and often times over responsive. Thankfully, you do not get knocked off course when you get hit by enemy weapons. A player has to be careful when aiming because a slight touch will move your crosshairs off the target. As for difficulty, I find only three missions actually very difficult once you get use to the controls. Fighting Cylons is a joke in some cases, where all you have to do is boost, hit the breaks for a hard term and then multi-lock missles and let them go, Boom no more Cylons. As sad as it is that is true often times you will be using that little trick alot as it does make your life easier. I think the hardiest thing for me was the stage where you have to fly a Cylon Raider all that formation maneuvering is a pain in the royal keister.
Overall Rating: 6/10
It was a fairly fun game, but it is definitely not one I would keep comming back to. This game had som much potential to be a absolutely great game but hey maybe there will be another game.
