"989 Sports gives you a great game, better than the last."

As the latest game in the MLB series, MLB 2006 is supposed to be the best, right? Well, when compared to the other MLB games, it definitly is. As a simulation-type game, it does a great job in the realistics compartment. As I have seen, their aren't any glitches in the game while playing. 989 Sports hit the needle in the haystack with this game.

The music in this game is great. The sound track was probably a big deal to the creators of this game because they didn't put together the same kind of crap soundtrack EA did with Madden 06. I saw a mixture of all the types of music.

Their are plenty of game modes to keep you busy in the game. They are: Exhibition(obviously), Career, Franchise, Season, and Home Run Derby. In exhibition you simply set up a game against the computer or a friend. You can select the diffuculty, game displays, lineup, pitcher, subsitutions, and more.

In career mode, you create a player and the game revolves around you increasing your skills through training hours gained by playing games and completing other tasks. You can pick certain things to say that will make the team decide if your good or not. In Franchise mode you act as the owner of a team and control the team's budget and profit for 5 years. You control the traing, rehabilitation, facilities, and other features real owners deal with to successfully gear their team to victory. And, obviously, you play the team's games.

Finally, you have the Home Run Derby, a chance for you to control sluggers and aim for the fences every time. I think every single player can be selected, if not that, then all of the power hitters are selectable.

Another cool aspect to the game is the ability to unlock legendary players. If you create a profile, and complete some of the tasks the profile says you need to complete, you will be rewardeed with points to unlock legends such as Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, and other hall of famers.

Please don't forget that you can create your own players. It is very fun to create your own team and replace the whole roster of one of the major league teams in the game with your created ones. Just don't forget to save the roster changes! I created a team of all the best baseball players in my class.

You can also move a player to any team you want to as long as it's a one-on-one trade. This is useful if you want to make every team in the game balanced or like to make fantasy teams for fun. Again, please remember to save your rosters when doing this.

If your a picky gamer, you should decide yourself if you should rent it or not. My opinion is to buy it, but if your not the biggest baseball fan and aren't sure if the game is right, I'm rolling out the red carpet to Blockbusters for you.
