Gun
Review by lordofthefarm
"An Exiting Faliure."
GUN, a game that was made by Neversoft & Activision, is - and always will be - another cheap imitation of Grand Theft Auto.
So lets get on to the scores.
GAMEPLAY 6/10
It was surprisingly addictive to ride at high speeds on a beautiful horse through the lovely Old-Western Scenery, and not having any trouble finding bandits determined to kill me. But that is only a part of the game. What I would like to focus on is the shooting. Shooting is the easiest thing to get wrong when programming the game. And they had to get it wrong. Most of us hate mirror aiming, and GUN has provided us with just that. There is an auto-aim which is called 'QuickDraw'. But it is absolutely useless in that it does not actually aim at anyone. You have to manually flick the controller/analog to find your enemies, and when you do, they run to the side, and you have to aim again. Gameplay is not a strong part of this game.
CONTROLS 7/10
Most of the controls are simple and easy to use. Horse riding couldn't be any more simple. Walking and moving around is pretty much primary stuff you should know from your earlier gaming experiences. And the more you play, the more you dislike. Simply because you want more than normal shooting and one melee button. You want more complex moves and stunts that would look good, as well as be useful. Enough to get through the game, but not to enjoy it fully.
GRAPHICS 7/10
Only one thing that looks gorgeous is the scenery. The hills, mountains, and fields really look jaw-dropping. But the character design is simple. With only one look, you don't get a lot of personality, which does not go to bonding with the game. The blood and guts are nothing special, with them being the same. And only around 5 different kinds of citizen models, there could have been way more.
STORY 7.5/10
The story is half copied from Read Dead Revolver. Your dad dies. You fight baddies to reveal your destiny, and meet allies along the way. OK. So the main story is nice and solid, surprise and relief. But the cement is missing. No background story to anything except the main character. Really a great potential gone to waste.
SOUND 6/10
Nice sound and background music. Sometimes too loud. Loops a lot too, repeating for the whole scenario. Now on to the voices that fade. Very very poor. Imagine you are listening to a conversation, then to turn around to look for approaching enemies. You loose what the people say in a instant. Its almost like the people in the game have ears at the front of their head.
REPLAY VALUE 4/10
Nothing to replay this about, except if you want to just play this again if for some reason you lied it THAT much.
RENT or BUY?
Rent. I completed it in 2 days. With most of the game completed. But as you can mess around after you beat the final boss, you have some more time to burn. 7 hours Max. To complete.
FINAL VERDICT 6/10
Mostly wrong turns in terms of gaming. But some sparks that could be fixed in the sequel, if there is one.
