Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition
Review by Spinnah
"One of the Best Racing Games out There"
This was my first Midnight Club game played. I have played Need for Speed and Gran Turismo before this, and found this game to be just as good. This should be a top game for street racers everywhere. On to the review.
Graphics--9/10
The graphics were just amazing. They aren't Gran Turismo 4 graphics, but they are good none the less. All of the cars that are racing look good, while the "civilian" cars don't look nearly as good. Even at top speeds and during big crashes, everything looks beautiful. The nitrous and neon both look good, as well as the paint of your car, especially pearlescent paint. It's always nice to see such detail to making a car change colors. Even the little graphics are noticeable. Your car will get scratches and cracks after every hit. Your headlights and taillights both look nice. You can even turn your high beams on. Everything just looks smooth as silk.
Sound--10/10
The sounds are top notch. Your engine reving sounds like it could be right next to you. When you hear your tires screech as you drift around a corner, you can feel your body moving over. Their that good. The voices of the few characters of the game are nice. Other cars on the road will honk their horns, which is a nice touch. The police sirens sound like they are right behind you, you might even drop your controller to put your hands up! Maybe, you won't, but the game still sounds good.
Story--2/10
Not much of a story here folks. If your looking for a game that contains a massive, emotional story, then don't even lay eyes on this game. But it's a racing game, what can you expect? Heres the lay down of the very small story. You are a no-name racers, looking to make your way to the big leagues. You travel through 3 cities, going to garages to trick your ride out, the rolling against local street racers and clubs. That's basically it. It shouldn't even phase you though, because the gameplay is so good.
Gameplay--10/10
Who ever said games with no story weren't fun was seriously wrong. This game rocks my socks. Now I can't drive yet, so I can't tell you if the cars handle like real ones, but I seriously doubt they do. Your cars are fast, very fast. Much faster than the real things. Who ever knew an Eclipse could go from 0-60 in around 2 seconds? And since when can your car explode and come back in one piece? So it may not be realistic, but it sure is fun. There are around 50 cars and bikes to choose from, like the Mitsubishi Eclipse, the Kawasaki Ninja, and the Lamborghini Galardo. Almost every car and bike is customisable, from the bumpers, hood, and rims, to literally the letters on your license plate. Yeah, you can get that detailed with your car. You can then go and change the performance of your car, with things like big engines, new brakes, and hydraulics. Then you take your car out and win some races. There are a couple kinds of races. There are your one race events, which can be circuits, or quick dashes through the city to get to a place the quickest. Then there are tournaments, which have things like time trials and circuits, and your club races, which are 15 single races. While racing, some unexpected guests, A.K.A the cops, may drop in. All they really do is slam you into walls, slowing you down. They can't arrest you, but they can get on your nerves. All of this takes place over 3 cities, San Diego, Atlanta, and Detroit. There are many clubs, one club for each kind of car, like SUV's, choppers, and exotics. Of course you can always just roam the cities, showing off your car, which is what I do half the time. It never gets old for me, sitting on the side of a street, bouncing around with hydraulics.
Replayability--10/10
I have had this game for I believe close to a year, and haven't gotten bored with it. Once you beat the game, there's still much more to do. You can buy and upgrade up to 30 cars. You can go out and explore the cities looking for the hidden rockstars. Or you can just start a new file and do it all over again. Plus, there is online play, which is a lot of fun.
Buy or Rent--BUY
This game is great, you shouldn't have too many regrets buying it.
Overall--9/10
A very good game. Clean graphics, clear sound, and great game play, this game is on my list of favorite games. Tricking out cars and racing them has never been this much fun. If only this was legal in real life. Oh well, thats what we have video games for.
