"Eternal Ring for PS2-the Kings Field Series Continues"
For those of us who loved the Kings Field rpg series for play station, the good news is that it has been continued on PS2 titled ''Eternal Ring''. The purpose of this game is to go around and collect magic rings and stones(to make new rings) and fight the monsters. There are a few characters to talk to and very huge and expansive dungeons. Whats good? The game has lots of good graphics as you would expect, especially where water is shown. Dungeons also have colorfull walls and floors and ceilings. Outside environments are rather good. There are lots of ways to equip your character with magic rings. There are lots of monsters to fight. You don't have to spend your time looking for secret passages like the old Kings field series.
Whats bad? Objects are almost non-existant to find in the game, its easier to buy them. Kind of takes the fun out of ''exploring''. There are very few wepons, only magic rings. The first part of the game is unbelievably slow and will frustrate everyone. The casual game player might be turned off quickly because of this. Some places you can't go even if you want to, want to explore that corner? forget it. Yes, the graphics are nice but miles of the same dungeon get tiring. Magic stones blend into the floor of every environment making it nearly impossible to find them. Some monsters are too easy to kill.
The review of ''7'' is for those who love dungeon crawl and rpg games, other gamers might find it harder to stick with this game. This is one of the first series of PS2 games and one of the first dvd rpgs. Pressure from Sony to get these games out in time for the PS2 launch is a bit evident in most of these games. With the power of dvd, Eternal Ring makes you wonder why Software didnt do more?
