"A Splitting Game, Finally with Internet Games!"

As the third game in the arcade-ish Timesplitters series, new weapons, gadgets, challenges, and worthy online opponents await your arrival. A new arsenal of weapons will be put into play for this game. The ability to create your own levels has been revamped and made better than either of the first two Splitter games. An increase in the total amount of characters you can choose will make unlocking them harder, but worth it as some characters are really, really, really cool. But then their are always the boring characters to accompany them.

Timesplitters 2's graphics may have been good, but Ts3 steped up and really shows you what good programing can do for a game. When you shoot people, blood is now part of the dying animation, one of the reasons that the game is rated mature now. It's arcade mode provides mindless fun for a while, but if you can't go online and play against other people, arcade league, challenge mode, and story mode are for you. Unlockables can be collected through the completion of most of the challenges and arcade league games you play.

With over 150 playable characters, you will be playing this game for a while if you plan to reach a 100% completion rating. The problem is that half the characters aren't worth playing as because they are generic. Now someone would want to play as an undead deer or a monkey, but who wants to be a guy named Sgt. Frost? Don't worry, their will be plenty of characters that were worth the challenge you completed to get them.

In story, the old concept of fighting in different times to prevent bad things from happening is back. The point is to retrieve some time crystals and destroy them, stopping some war from ever happening. You play as Sgt. Cortez, a tough guy that everyone else depends on. You'll start to think that all of the other story mode characters are lazy. The war is between the humans and the Timesplitters, aliens, I guess that's what we'll call them, that use the crystals to wreck havoc on us by disrupting the past.

Online mode can support 8 player rooms on the Playstation 2 and 16 player rooms on Xbox Live. Their are loads of leaderboards to keep you informed on who's the best and who's not, but at the top is the usually hackers/gamesharkers. The huge amount of lag you would expect to see isn't there. Whoever supervised the making of the online part of Timesplitters 3 did a great job.

From the main menu, you can even create your own arcade and story maps with the Mapmaker. Be careful, though, the story part of making the map can get frustrating at times.

Overall, this is a game that a person that likes Timesplitters games will like. If you like to stick to realism, you probably won't enjoy this game that much. The wide variety of weapons consists of some made up ones, so enjoy them if you care. If you like to pickup a game and in two days really know what your doing, this is that type of game. I can't say buy or rent, that's up to your tastes.
