We Love Katamari
Review by jwill602
"Namco's best game"
When you hear, "my favorite game is 'We Love Katamari'", you probably wonder, "what the heck is a Katamari?" When you hear that this game is about a centimeter tall prince rolling a ball, you probably wonder, "who would want to do that?" If you actually take your time and try playing it, you can find that this game is actually rather fun. If I could give awards to a bunch of PS2 games, this game would easily win two awards, "Dumbest-themed PS2 game of the year" and "Best PS2 game of the year". So, if I just rambled on about how awesome this game was, you would probably just think "wow, what an idiot." You want details, right? So, I broke this whole thing up into categories and I'll explain why it's so awesome in each category.
Graphics
This games worst feature is it's graphics, but, as they say "every cloud has a silver lining", right? There's actually a level in this game where you can roll up a bunch of clouds...Anyway, for the most part, this game looks like a bunch of lego stuff. The people do anyway. They have square heads, rectangular bodies, and run in the weirdest ways. Fish, the princes cousins, buildings, islands, clouds, towns, cars, and monuments, aren't so bad. There are monuments like the Eiffel Tower, Mt. Rushmore, etc. that actually look like they do in real life. Well, like they would in most other games anyway. I would have to give this game a 6/10 for it's graphics.
"Funness"
Now, for the silver lining on those graphics. This game is loads more fund than the original, and has a lot more to do in it. There are better rewards for rolling up cousins, and better presents to put on your character. When looking at the field (level selection) in this game, it's a bit deceiving. Not every person in the field represents a single level. You probably already know, but the cousins aren't levels, just characters you can switch into by going up to them and pressing X. Also, all those people, aren't one level each. Some are three, but most are just two levels per person. I would have to give this game a 10/10 for "funness".
Originality
This game is big time original. How many game do you know of where you can roll up people, cars, buildings, countries, and even planets? The only one I know of previous to this one is Katamari Damacy, this games first. Yes, for those of you who didn't know, this game is a sequel, although you can unlock all the cut scenes from the first game in this game. You really don't need to play Katamari Damacy to understand this game. So, this game is REALLY original. Seeing as it's the first of it's kind, I'd have to give it a 10/10 for it's originality.
Replay Value
Pretty good, not much to discuss here, I could play the sumo level over and over again. You actually get to roll around a sumo and eat stuff and get fat. The donation level where you roll up things to raise money for a "Save the Red Pandas" organization, is also pretty addicting. This game gets an 8/10 for it's replay value.
I would recommend this game for anybody that can move their fingers. I'm sorry, but I would NOT recommend it to paralyzed people or to dead people. They are among those few who cannot learn how to play this game. This game is not at all violent, although when talking to the king, the background music does sound like a group of people chanting the "D word" at one point. This game can probably make you laugh, and most probably you'll enjoy it. Personally, most of my games are Lord of The Rings and Dragonball Z type games, but I still enjoy it, and so will you!
