24: The Game
Review by horror_spooky
"Dee Doo Dee Doo"
Before I rented this game I was more than just a little skeptical. Most games based on movies or TV shows, are the worst games ever made. 24: The Game has moved away from this tradition and is actually a good game!
24 is a really great game that will probably be over-looked because it's based on a TV show. Nevertheless, I gave it a chance, and I'm very glad that I did so. The game starts out a little boring, then you'll get into it and it'll be really fun. The only thing that slows down it's momentum is some of the driving missions. The driving missions are just annoying and not fun at all. The on-foot missions, however, are extremely entertaining. If the driving missions were improved, this game could've very possibly received a perfect ten score. The game isn't really that difficult. Some missions are pretty tough and other missions are easy. It just depends on the player, really. You have to get used to the aiming system at first, but after you get used to it, popping off enemies becomes an easy task. The driving controls are terrible. Sometimes Jack, Shawn, Chase, whoever you are in the current mission, won't even get out of the car until it comes to a complete stop and for three seconds they'll sit there. Most of the time they won't even go out the driver's side! So, if you're vehicle catches on fire, you might as well restart the mission.
You are a part of CTU. Which is kind of like the CIA. After an assassination attempt on the Vice President you have to figure out what the terrorist organization is and what else they're planning. This leads into a huge story line that spands a lot farther then Agent Jack Bauer can imagine.
Sometimes the graphics are great and other times they're terrible. Some vehicles look like the vehicles in the original Driver game. When other vehicles look like the cars in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. The cut-scene graphics are usually really decent, but sometimes they look terrible. The same goes for the character modules. It seems that the developers focused on some places but just let the graphics slip in other places. The voice-acting is of course great. The actual actors from the show lend their services, which brings some of the best voice-acting a video game has ever had.
The game isn't too short, which I'm very happy about. It seems that of recently games have been shorter then they used to be. 24 breaks away from the recent trend videogames have seemed to pick up and brings a decent-lengthed game. There is a average replayability. You can revisit levels and try to get a higher percentage on them to unlock more bonus features.
Rent this game. There is no need to spend fifty dollars or so on it. It's good but it's not that good. Note that the game could be better if your a fanboy of the TV show. The game was so close to a perfect ten if it just wasn't for the terrible driving missions.
