"No, this game was not lost in translation from the PC."

The Sims 2 brings back what truly is a Sims game for a console. After I found The Sims: Urbz in the City a total letdown I am glad they sprang back to the original console style Sims game.

Playing the game is a little bit similar to the PC version because of the new Goals system. Instead of having some pre-defined goals for you to complete, this time you'll have random goals (depending on your characters profile). Of course there will be goals to complete one lot. These are known as Platinum and Gold wants. So, the new system is made up of Wants and Fears just like in the PC. I didn't quite understand this at first but now I'm used to it I prefer this new method. By completing your Wants you get aspiration points. So, everytime you get passed a certain amount of points you unlock new stuff.

Talking about unlockables, there is quite a lot to unlock. It will take you quite a while to do this. Most things can be unlocked by completing optional Wants. So, really everything could be unlocked in the first lot if you want. Of course, the best unlockables come when you have a lot of aspiration points so it's best to start now. I do feel some more clothing and accessories could of been put in though.

For the first time in a Sims game you can now control your character with the analog stick rather than moving the cursor to a point. I prefer this way since I think it's a lot easier to get to somewhere. However, the downside to this is you can only do one task at a time. By pressing Select you can switch between this mode and the classic mode. I recommend using the Classic when you want to do multiple tasks. This new control I welcome and I hope it will be present in any future Sims games.

Two player is possible. Although, I'm sure many people don't feel the need to play with another player. Still, I think it's worth a try. Once you've created your lot and have everything put inside it you can control your player and the other player can control his or hers. So, it's like running a house together. Someone will do the cooking and someone will invite people round for a party. It's a very well thought out process. If you get the time, try this out with someone else.

As you progress through the game it will become more of a chore. You'll find yourself working and coming home. Once you are home it's best to make the most of it before its work again. I sometimes find it quite impossible to accomplish one of my Platinum wants and then I realise I have little time left until work. So, yeah the game will seem repetitive at times just to let you know.

One downside to the game is the loading times. Although not as long as The Sims Bustin' Out it's still quite bad. The frame rate can become quite bad as well. You'll probably encounter this when you are in a bigger lot with more people. The frame rate goes crazy when your controllable Sims are at work or asleep.

From reading the GameSpot review, I feel more negative points have been said about the game. They say something was lost in translation. I totally don't think this is true. The playability is addictive and you can always find out something new to do.

The graphics haven't changed much from the previous games. The graphics are just as equal to any of the previous games. Sound is great too. The Simlish language is still just as funny as any other Sims game. With the sounds from the Sims, objects and environment I think it makes it sound just like your average place.

Is the game really worth it? Yes, if you have enjoyed The Sims games on consoles this is no exception - get it. If this will be your first Sims game on console then still, yes, get it. You'll get used to way it works in about half hour.
