Question from NFITC1
Asked on: 11/5 12:21PMSo now that I have my PS3 I'd like to pump it through my surround sound. Conveniently enough it takes TOSLink-in, but not HDMI-in. I've currently got my PS2 TOSLink plugged into that, but I want my PS3's to be in there too. So I guess my question comes in three parts:
1. If I use a TOSLink splitter (I'd like to since it's cheaper than a switch), does the PS2 "win" against the PS3 if they're both on? In other words, which units sound will come out?
2. Do either still produce a signal even though they are "off"?
3. Does the PS2 still give surround sound (with supported games, of course) through the stereo RCA cables like the Wii does?

statusif u use the toslink splitter why on earth would u have BOTH systems on at once? it would seem it would combione both sounds.neither system will sound if it is on off mode. and ps2 nor any system will give dolby DIGITAL thru rca's.the wii does not either. what u can get , at best is dolby pro logic which is a simulated surround but not technically true 5.1. my suggestion is spend 150 on a reciever (harmanaudio store on ebay has very good refurb ones w/warranty) that has hdmi , and digital optical(toslink) that way u can use the inputs seperately. or if u wanna go cheap route just keep ur ps3 on the digital input on the reciever, so u can get it to run at dolby digital, and move the ps2 to rca config so u can use dolby pro logic thru the reciever. BTW last few updates on ps3 have dual output modes , u can have it come out in hdmi as well as toslink. in case u get a tv that has hdmi in.
