Asked on: 8/9 4:21PMI was wondering if this game downloaded the Shivering Isles expansion to the hard drive so that you can play the SI expansion with the original Oblivion game disk. I already have the original and if that is the case I will just rent the game to get the free download
No. it does not download directly to the harddrive.
but it does on the 360.

If you rent the game of the year edition then you can use your files with it and get new items. When you return it and play your original you loose all your SI items. the only way to keep them is to fork out $30 and download the expansion to you PS3. Also if you do all the quests in SI then load that file without the expansion and you save. you wont be able to do the quests again in SI but you wont have the rewards again either.
