Resistance: Fall of Man
Review by PhazonInfuser
"An incredible FPS that offers a unique mixture of different gameplay styles"
Resistance: Fall of Man was perhaps one of the most anticipated games for the Playstation 3. Insomniac is a favorite among Playstation fans, most known for their widely popular Ratchet and Clank series. Resistance: Fall of Man is an epic First Person shooter, that combines multiple types of genres to create a truly incredible game...
Graphics: 10/10
This is a given. With the incredible processing power of the PS3, Resistance: Fall of Man offers the most realistic and most interactive environment one has ever seen in a game. With incredibly realistic backgrounds, crisp character animation, brilliant physics, and an environment full of objects that can be altered in real time, this game really shows what the PS3 is capable of.
Sounds: 9/10
Another Triumph. Incredible "war" sound effects bring so much life to this game. The gunfire, the explosions, the yelling and screaming, the battle cries of the enemy...it all sounds incredible, and makes you feel like you have been dropped right in the middle of the battle. Musical score is also very good. I would not say its the best musical score I have ever heard, but it is still nonetheless exceptional. Sometimes it can get a tad repetitive, but eventually you are given some fresh music to listen to
Gameplay: 10/10
Resistance: Fall of Man is unlike any other game on the market. It provides an unforgettable and fresh combination of Military Action, Survival Horror, and Sci-Fi. Gamers who are fans of the Medal of Honor series will surly see the resemblance in this game. Gamers who are fans of the Resident Evil series will also see some resemblance in this game too. I even get a little bit of a Halo vibe from this game as well. All in all, Resistance: Fall of Man offers a brand new, unforgettable gaming experience
Controls: 8/10
The controls are your typical FPS standard. Nothing overly special. Hardcore FPS players will quickly start to miss the Dual Shock. I know I sure did. And the revamped L2 and R2 buttons are a little too sensitive, and are easily pressed by accident. One nice little quirk with this game makes a decent use of the Six-Axis motion sensitivity. If an enemy grabs you, you shack your controller to get him off and slam your gun into its face. A nice little addition.
Plot/Storyline: 9/10
Now, I usually would have given this a lower score. The basic storyline, about a virus that infects and mutates humans into these deadly Chimera creatures, has already been done numerous times. However, what brings the score back up, to what it is now, is because Insomniac took it in a different direction. I don't want to give it away and spoil it for anybody you has not yet played the game. But you will know what I am talking about when you play it, and see how Insomniac took this basic idea much, much further and made it their own.
Final Score: 9.5/10....rounded up to 10/10
Resistance Fall of Man is a rare gem. Combining many favorite gameplay genres, and creating a once of a kind experience. This is a HIGHLY recommended game for any owner of the Playstation 3
