Resistance: Fall of Man
Review by Arc_Ricolne
"If Playstation's Next-gen games are as good as this, the competition better watch out."
Resistance: Fall of Man is a great first person shooter, with a lot more depth than many people would give it credit for.
Story: The games takes place in an alternate-reality version of the 1950's. The intelligent race of chimera has already taken over Asia and most of Europe with only Britain remaining. You play as Sgt. Nathan Hale, who after being infected by the chimera, seems to be the only hope for mankind. The backstory seems to end there, leaving you the uncover the rest of it, while playing through the game. However, most people will miss the backstory hidden in the game's intelligence reports, helping to explain some of the story's "plotholes."
Graphics: The only real disappointment in this game. The graphics are good, but do not really showcase the PS3's capabilities. Granted, this game is still a first-gen game, so developers aren't used to the PS3's graphic capabilities yet, and at the time we saw Gears of War's graphics, we hadn't seen great things from next-gen yet.
Gameplay: Fantastic, that is the best word to describe it. The AI is very smart, and on normal, it seems as though you are playing the game on a harder difficulty. Even easy is relatively hard for some people. Imagine a full-scale war unfolding around you. If you take a position behind a wall and come out to take shots, often times one chimera will shoot at you, while another will come from the side to melee you. You will die pretty often, but will have so much fun that is doesn't really matter. It is definitely one of the best FPS games I have played, if not just for it's great difficulty. Plus, there is co-op, but don't think that the game will be much easier because there is a second person helping, because the game will increase the difficulty in order to keep on par with you.
Online: This is possibly the best part of the game. Engaging in firefights on par with those in the Unreal games, you will find yourself dying quite a bit, but pretty quickly you will win your first game, and soon after that you will win 10 and so on. They have both ranked games and unranked games with each offering their own unique experiences. My only two complaints about online are that there is no online co-op, and the ranking system is often slow in order to increase stats. But these are just small, nitpicky complaints.
Overall: This game is fantastic for anyone who loves a good FPS, and it also offers a great backstory. It is extremely fun and probably one of the most addicting games I have played in a long time. Enjoy the campaign mode, it's fantastic. I'll see you online.
