"One of the better basketball titles I've played this year"

As I've said before I am just not a fan of sports unless it's college sports. Anyway, I have recently had the misfortune of playing NBA Live on my 360 and I know why everyone hates the latest installment in that series, I had no clue why everyone liked NBA 2k7. Now that I have played it I can see why.

Graphic wise this game is in between looking great and kind of ugly. So far out of the three PS3 games I've played none of them have been too hot in the graphics department. Character models are kind of ugly, facial wise but the way the clothes swish and sway with the movements can almost make one sick with how realistic it looks at times. The courts look good, as does the audience.

Again, my PS3 is having sound issues but I did sadly have the misfortune to hear the opening song in the game, it made me wish my PS3 would never have sound again. I can't judge the announcers or other music options so I apologize.

The control in the game is a mixed bag. It's simple to do the basic stuff like shoot, run, jump, pass and all of that. It's when I had to shoot a foul shot that my palms got sweaty and my mind began to race and then well, I screwed up. See, the foul shots have you using the PS3's motion sensor thing. Having never used it before it was a complete shock to my gaming nerves. Still suck at it but it's an interesting gimmick and it's nice that the entire game doesn't depend on it.

If you've ever played a sports game you know what to expect here. For some reason my game loaded right up for a quick VIP match. Maybe it was because of a friend's save file. Either way it was easy enough for me to pull up the main menu and notice that the game offered some nice modes of play and one in particular I really enjoyed was the street ball. Reminds me of why I liked the original NBA Street so much. Animations are super smooth during this mode and reminded me of the Globe Trotters with some of the moves.

The found that while the Ai seemed to be fairly good, that for some reason I tended to land most 3 pointers. Not a big complaint and I'm not even sure what difficulty I was on but after playing Live and sucking big time at it, it was nice to have a fair playing field, even for someone who sucks at these types of games.

So, the game offers a good selection of modes and it also offers on-line play, which I didn't get a chance to access. Actually, I have no clue how the PS3 is on-line but maybe some day I will know. I will say that compared to Madden 07 this game has fantastic loading times. Heck, I barely remember any loading.

NBA2k7 is by far the best PS3 title I have played. Not perfect but it's fairly solid and does use the tilt feature of the PS3 controller. At least worth a rental but personally I'd be hard pressed in picking between the PS3 version and the 360 version.
