Resistance: Fall of Man
Review by ABUSIVExGAMER
"The best First person shooter I've played in a long time."
Graphics 10/10: This was the first game I bought with my PS3, and I was blown away. I couldn't believe the detail in the environments and character models. The chimera (alien enemies) look extremely detailed and almost so real its scary; although, most of the different chimera look similar and they could have tried harder making each one more unique looking. Other than that, I have no complaints.
Sound 10/10: The sound is also flawlessly done. The voice acting was really very well done. The lines were never cheesy, and the actors did a good job of not making them sound cheesy. The music is suspenseful, and it does a good job of keeping you on edge. The battle music is usually the same, but for me it never got old. The sounds you hear in the battle are superb. From your infantry screaming things, to the random building explosions, it seems they couldn't have done a better job.
Story 7/10: This is the games only downfall. The overall plot seemed promising in the beginning, but they didn't expand on it much at all. The story takes place in sort of an alternate universe where WW II never occurred. Instead, a horde of aliens called Chimera come to your planet to take over. You start out as a Sergeant named Nathan Hale. Within the first few minutes of the game, he becomes infected with the Chimeran virus; although, his body reacts differently then all other people. He has a resistance to it, and it only makes him stronger. As you play through the game you meat captain Parker, the narrator, and she helps you throughout the game. Like I mentioned earlier, they could have made the story really something, yet they did not develop many certain plot points. Sergeant Hale and Captain Parker have little to no development. Also, you will find yourself in certain locations doing missions without them even really giving a good reason of why you have to go there. Overall, the story is by no means bad, it just could have been a lot better.
Gameplay 9/10: The gameplay in this game is fantastic. There is a massive arsenal of weapons to choose from. A few examples would be: the auger, which shoots through walls. The carbine which is your standard machine gun. The bullseye, a chimeran weapon where you can tag your enemy, duck behind cover, and all your shots will go directly after your enemy. Also There is the sapper, which shoots mines. There is also a shotgun, a sniper rifle which slows time, and many more. There is a perfect balance of human weaponry and chimeran weaponry. There are also four different types of grenades you can get, each with their own cool effects. The game takes quite a bit of skill and strategy because the AI is extremely intelligent. They will make formations and flank you, hide behind walls and take cover, and throw extremely accurate grenades. This game forces you to think and use your weapons to the fullest potential. There are also skill points you can earn by doing certain tasks. The skill points then unlock different things. This just adds to the overall fun factor and replay value of the game. Now onto the multiplayer which is fun enough. I do not have online yet for my PS3, but I have played it and let me tell you it was some kind of fun. There are many different games to choose from and the multiplayer alone can keep you busy for quite some time.
Difficulty 8/10: This game has a great difficulty balance. It is a refreshingly challenging game, but not to the extent where it is frustrating. As I said above, the AI is genius and they cause you to use strategy. You cannot just run in guns ablaze and expect to walk out of the battle in one piece. They have 4 difficulties to choose easy, medium, hard, and superhuman. Easy felt a little more like normal the first time through because it was a bit harder than I am used to. I am now playing on superhuman and each play-through offers a new experience. The enemies learn new tactics and there are more of them. The difficulty is great.
Buy/Rent/Pass?
If you own a PS3 you must own this game. It is definitely worth the money and is one of the best, if not the best, game on the market for the PS3. The different difficulties and multiplayer will keep you busy for multiple hours, and you probably can't get the full experience it just one rent.
Overall Score 9/10
