MotorStorm

"Best racer on the PS3?"
Motorstorm is the racing game that show cases just what the PS3 can do. Does it hold up to the other racing games out there like Forza 2 and Test Drive Unlimited? Is the game amazing enough to buy a PS3 solely for it? Was it the best game ever? Read on!
This is by far the best looking game on the market right now. The vehicles look great and the mud and everything clings to them. Hell, the tires alone had me drooling for more. The tracks look fantastic with an amazing draw distance. This game is worth drooling over. Even the mud shifts under your vehicle and stays that way, just amazing.
The sound in the game is fantastic. A great music selection that made me want to buy a soundtrack. The vehicles sound great, each sounding differently and you can tell when someone is coming up behind you.
Control in the game is very good as well. Feels like a slightly tighter arcade racer. Everything controls the same with just a little tweak here or there. I never had any problems with the controls and found it easy to just pick up and play.
Motorstorm is your typical racing game at first glance. What really sets it apart from the others is how huge the tracks are, how many paths you can pick in each race. It's just mind blowing when you think about how much thought went into the tracks because every single path has advantages and disadvantages.
Your can pick from different types of vehicles. Trucks, bikes, atvs. If it's sued for offroading then it's most likely available to be used in this game. They all kind of handle the same but not.
The physics in the game are flat out amazing. It seriously feels like you're going over the bumps, cracks, hitting the ramps and landing. No other racer has been able to show this realism in the way the vehicle reacts to your actions. Just amazing.
The problem with the game arises with actual content. There are 22 tickets in the game. There are 3 or 4 races per ticket. It's a good amount of races and to be honest the later ones are rather difficult. The problem is that the game has nothing else to offer besides those tickets. Thankfully Time Attack was just released on-line so that's an addition mode (and it's free). I'm hoping they release an off line multiplayer and maybe some new tracks and stuff.
The game can take a while and the races are rather long. It's funny but most of the time during a race I could never figure out how close I was to the finish because I always ended up going a different way. In my first race I didn't even notice I had done 3 laps, I thought the track was just that long. The game also offers on-line play but at the moment I am unable to access that kind of feature so this will have to be updated at a later time. I haven't heard any complaints though about the on-line.
The game may lack content to make it worth the $60 asking price but it's one of the best looking and best playing games on the PS3 right now. In a year it should be a Greatest Hits and there should be a sequel or a better game out by then. However I do think they will release some new content to really make this a worthwhile title to be had in a collection.
