"Did 2K Sports ReInvent Footall? I Think not."

With the release of 2K Sports newest addition featuring all-stars from all decades, All-Pro Football 2k8 does not hold up to it's expectations. With football game leading developer, EA Sports, that expectation is hard to exceed. While the game is not perfect, it does make a good attempt at the sports genre. Keep in mind; this is 2K's first attempt at a football game in the 3rd generation of gaming consoles.

Graphics 7/10:
The tackles are wonderful. The catches are awesome. The game graphics are wonderfully crafted together and run smooth at 1080i High Definition. The graphics were a near miss, as you can see small glitches in where players magically walk through one another during cut scenes, but while playing that doesn't seem to happen. Some of the faces seem real, while others do not. The grass seems to be over powering though.

GamePlay 5/10:
The game play seems a little dull at times, or rather impossible to handle. It will take some time to get used to, but I ran out of time as I only rented it. They introduced a non 0-100 stat system, where players have “special abilities”, some of which are irritating at times. This game lacks a franchise mode for extended single player game play, although does have a season mode which I was not able to try. Online mode seems to run smoothly without too many problems that I have noticed. This game introduces NFL all-stars from around almost all decades, like Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, and Reggie White. It is a really cool idea, and the reason they are doing this is because EA bought out the rights to use the NFL logo, names, and players. It adds a little bit uniqueness too the game, as I never imaged John Elway being at the top of his game again.

Presentation 7/10:
I am surprised that I rated this so high, as I feel like I am watching EA Sports 2k5 on PS 2. The half-time show and the final game show seem to be just like that of 2k5 with rolling video of your highlights, just like if you had a hard drive for PS2. It does, however, have a better presentation than that of any in its class.

Overall 6/10:
Is 2K really reinventing football? I don't think so yet. If I was you, I would rent the game before buying it, and also wait to see if EA Sports have improved themselves after last years horrible Madden 2007 on PS3. Madden 08 is releasing Aug 17th, and I am looking forward to reviewing it and comparing the two. I think this year EA will win hands down. Next year, 2K sports have a chance at becoming the leading football game developer if EA doesn't straighten up.
