Call of Duty 3

"Thank goodness there's multiplayer"
Introduction
Having played Call of Duty games for as long as I can remember, I felt almost obliged to get the latest offering in the CoD franchise. I was not, on the whole, disappointed.
Gameplay (single player)/Story 3/10
I was hoping that the designers would try and lift the single player campaign after the flaming that CoD2 and CoD2:BRO got. However, it seems that they are content to follow the same format. I never really felt interested in the single player campaign. I would finish each level hoping that the next would have something better to offer. It was a vain hope. The levels were boring and similar to all the other CoD games. The enemy were either moronic and just stood there, or superhuman and could see through smoke and snipe me with automatic weapons. Sometimes, you think that you are behind cover, but you can still be shot. The story was poor and nothing new and none of the mission types were anything unusual. The only good points were that it did indeed look decent. To be honest, it's a waste of time.
Gameplay (multiplayer) 9/10
If it didn't have online multiplayer, I would have traded this game in months ago. Fortunately, the designers did get something right. Having grown tired of the single player, I was forced to take the war online. I was glad I did. The multiplayer was easy to use, easy to find matches on and worked well. Six different game types on eight maps means there is something for everyone. The only thing that stopped it getting full marks was the fact that it can be difficult to connect to other games sometimes, particularly if you have a wireless connection. Overall though, superb, you will not get bored.
Graphics 9/10
The graphics at least, are faultless. On HD, they are magnificent and you may forget some of the gripes about single player as you row across some of the most realistic water effects I have seen. I felt that the great graphics did indeed add to the intensity of the game. There were also almost no glitches on the game.
Sound 8/10
Again, the game got something right. The sound was generally good. Each of the weapons was distinctive. Also you can now listen for enemies trying to sneak up on you. Perhaps the best bits are when you shoot an enemy or throw a grenade and your character occasionally comes out with a taunt. Good solid sound effects, no problems there.
Replay value 10/10
As I said above, the single player is not worth playing again. The multiplayer however, is very addictive and is keeping me playing all the time. It terms of actual value, the amount you can replay with the multiplayer; definitely makes it value for money.
Summary
The game scored 39/50 which comes to 7.8/10. If you want a superb online experience, get this, it beats Resistance: Fall of Man any day. If you can't play online, don't get this game, it would be a waste of money. If you want a solid first person shooter for online play on PS3, this is the game.
