The Darkness
Review by Shadow3003
"Darkness Delivers"
The Darkness is a multiplatform game for the Xbox 360 and PS3. This game is truly great and is a really good game to add to your PS3 library. It is engaging and fun and multiplayer is a smash as well.
The Story:
The basic story is that your Jackie Estacado and you are a mobster that works for Pauli Fenchetti or rather Uncle Pauli. It is your 21st birthday and your are betrayed by Pauli. Thankfully the darkness reveals itself to you and helps you fight back even though it has its own agenda. After that the story goes on with Jackie fighting back. He even gets to go to hell and back. A nice little story as far as first person shooters go so you can't really complain.
Score: 8
Graphics:
I for one do not have an HDTV yet so I couldn't get the full beauty of 1080p, but with my standard TV it the game looked incredible. The shading and lighting along with the expressions you could see on the people. The cutscenes made it feel like a movie experience. This game definitely excells in the graphics department.
Score: 10
Gameplay:
In every FPS the gameplay is what really makes or breaks the game. The Darkness delivers a whole lot of fun. You have your standard guns ranging from pistols, shotguns, assualt rifles and so much more, but heck your have dark powers for crying out loud. You will find yourself using those abilities to the fullest. Wether it be the creeping dark to attack enemies from behind, using your minions to take the heat while your tentacle arm the enemy from behind or use the awsome power of the black hole. You definitely have a whole lot to go with when dealing with your enemies. The only big I had with the game where the load time screens. Sure hearing some intersting things from Jackie each time I went down into the Subway was entertaining at first, but after hearing the same thing over and over again just so you can continue in the story line makes your really wish the game would load faster. It is no big deal though as many of the cutscene load time screens help provide some story line advancement.

Replay Value:
Multiplayer, Extra Content and Achievements. This is the replay value in this game. The biggest thing that will bring you back over and over again will be the multiplayer. It's a whole lot of fun using the power of darklings to shred up your opponents. Other than that there are a few reasons to play through the story mode a few times again. One is all of the collectables that give you extra content. Once you get them all you can check out a load of extra goddies from the main screen. There is also the fact of achievements. If you are an achievement fanatic you will have to play through game on normal and hard along with collect all of the extra secrets. It won't take that long, but it will provide you with some great amusment.
Score: 10
Final Words:
The Darkness is a fun game and a great add to your PS3 library. The graphics and gameplay are amazing and you have a lot of replay value to it as well. The story is entertaining in itself and provides you the story of The Darkness comic book series up to issue 40 I believe. The game isn't very long though so if you don't plan to play it for a long time with the multiplayer definitely rent it and try and get everything.
