Super Rub a Dub
Review by wolverinefan
"Cheap and fun"
Rub a Dub is one of the downloadable games on the Playstation 3's store. It costs a whole 2.99 and to be honest it looks like and perhaps plays like a tech demo. Is it worth the small price of admission?
The graphics in the game are very pleasing. The tubs are small but the water effects are some of the best to be seen so far. The way it shifts, splashes out and even the currents in the later levels. Not only do they look great but the physics of it all is top notch. The ducks look like little rubber ducks you play with in a tub, which is obviously how they look. If your duck gets eaten by a shark his little head floats on past which is kind of sad.
Music in the game exists but it didn't leave any lasting impression. No voice work. The sound effects are rather good though with the water splashes.
The entire game is played with the PS3's motion controls. Tilt the tub to move around. Bop your control up or down to jump. It's very easy and didn't require me to look controls up and I instantly had the hang of it all.
There really isn't much to this game. If you've played Super Monkey Ball then you may have an idea of how this plays.
You need to guide a rubber duck around a tub. Size and how many tubs depends on the level. Within the tub are little bubbles with baby ducks. You need to collect them all and guide them to the exit. It's easy at first but as you advance you'll be dodging sharks, hoping into other tubs.
Each level has a goal time but you can go over it but you won't get a medal for the stage. It's pretty easy to meet even the smallest goal. Some levels do get harder. If you die or lose ducks the game won't end. You just won't get the medals.
The game isn't all that long but it's really fun. It's just a simple little game, doesn't require much thought and it's so cheap that it's just stupid not check it out.
Rub a Dub might not be the deepest game out there but with a price tag of 2.99 and it actually being rather well made it beats a lot of the games over on the Xbox Live Arcade.
