"A blast on-line but no single player does hurt a little"

When Warhawk was originally announced I had some excitement for it. Having never played the original I couldn't wait to finally play a new game from the guys who brought us Twisted Metal. However my hopes and dreams were quickly dashed out by the game being on-line only. Is it worth it though?

Graphically the game looks good. My first impression was a let down. I was in a huge city in the sky, the fog and clouds just made it look cheap. Then I played the different levels. From the character animations to the ruined cities and the clear skies it's just breath taking. Not only that but the fact that you can go into the air at any minute and still be amazing is just an astounding feet.

Not only that but the game runs so smoothly that it makes me wonder why I pay to play on-line with my 360. The load times for finding a session and entering one are very short and add to the pick up and play factor.

Ultimately that's what this game is about. Having the ability to hop right into it and have a ball. Sure I wasn't good at first but as I learned the maps and the weapons it became a lot easier.

The control also helps as it's very responsive. Switching weapons is very easy and smooth and I had the controls down within minutes.

The game play itself is where the game shines though. Not sure how many maps but I instantly fell in love with 3. Only the sky map did I not enjoy and I think it's because of where it starts you.

The maps are huge though but so is what this game has to offer. You can play any way you want. You can run and gun, you can hop in a vehicle and run people over or shoot them. Or you can hop into a Warhawk and take to the skies where Ariel combat is stressful and you can still attack the ground and be attacked by them.

All of this without a hiccup along the way is just amazing. The price for it all is a little steep though. You can download it off the PSN for $40 or buy it for $60 and get a Bluetooth headset. Personally the headsets from the PS2 work on the PS3 so it isn't exactly needed.

Game modes are far from exciting as I only remember death match and team death match but to be honest that's what I love to play. King of the hill and capture the flag are not my cup of tea to be honest.

What it all boils down to though is what kind of gamer are you? Do you require a single player or is a cheapened on-line only release okay with you? I personally fell in love with the game and had a blast with it and I'm not big on the on-line game (except Shadowrun which I loved also...) Wait, I see a pattern. I only like on-line games that are on-line only. How interesting...

Either way I say give this a gamefly rental or check your local Blockbuster but be warned it's a 50/50 chance of Blockbuster having it as some never carried it. Personally though I'll be buying my own copy and with new content being released this past week for $7 I can't wait to see what else is there for me to mess around with.
