Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Review by LiquidShakes
"Call of Duty 4: The Best One Yet"
I purchased a PS3 a few months after launch, and suffice to say, I haven't been totally drawn into it yet. There haven't been enough games, plain and simple. The key point here is that the multi-platform games that have been released on PS3, simply aren't good.
That was the case, till I bought Call of Duty 4. I can't say enough good things about this game. But I'll do it nice and slow, in-case I start to hyperventilate.
Graphics:
Let's start superficially. This game is gorgeous. Hands down the best multi-platform game out for the PS3 right now. The textures, character models, environments, all amazing. What is especially amazing are the character animations. Simply amazing. When a fellow soldier goes to plant a demolition on a door, it is just so real. One level in particular; "Death from Above", feels like you're watching a military documentary on TV or something. Yes it's that good.
Gameplay:
The shooting mechanics are very good. You can adjust the sensitivity from 1 to 10. It's easy enough. You hold L1 to get a zoom view to get precise headshots, or you can just shoot from the hip. You can walk, run, duck, get into prone, climb over things, and of course jump. It has kind of a Counter-Strikesque feel to it.
Sound:
The sound in this game is literally like putting yourself into a war-zone. Everything around you is audible, the long ranged gun shots, mortar explosions, the groans and moans of falling soldiers, the steady footsteps around you, enemies planning their strategies. A lot of work went into the sound in this game, and on a good 5.1 or even 2.1 system, this game sounds absolutely amazing.
Multiplayer:
COD 4 Multiplayer deserves its own section. Think of Halo 3 online, times 20. You start off with two modes, Free for All and Team Deathmatch. The only way to unlock the rest of the modes, there are a lot, is to gain higher levels. How do you gain higher levels? Kill Kill Kill!!!! The online mode almost seems like a multiplayer game. The better your exp is, the more things you can do, the more ways you can customize your weapons and your character.
The possibilities are endless.
Lasting Appeal:
Once you beat the game, you unlock a special arcade mode. This mode is great fun. You can go back and play the levels under a time limit, and try to get a high score.
Pros: All of the Above
Cons: No Vehicles (Though in some levels you are a passenger in a vehicle.)
Overall, 9.5/10
