Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
Review by dcgeek
"Sony you did it again!"
This game is flawless! The story is fantastic. And the weapons are the best. It is very challenging. Yet the fun is not drained. SONY is only getting better and better at making games top notch. It is a great start for SONY.
Gameplay- 10/10: God, talk about amazing. They have really come through. The have perfectly offered a mix of both SIXAXIS and normal controls. If you don't like the SIXAXIS, you can turn it off. Not that you would want too. It by far the best of them all! Even better than Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal. They still offer both the original Ratchet & Clank 3rd person controls and the Lock-Strafe controls. Both work fine however I prefer to use Lock-Strafe. You still have the quick select screen so that you can change weapons and have the game pause while you are doing it. Except that now since it is on blu-ray you can have 3 levels of quick select instead of just two. The reason is that blu-ray can store more information on it. 50gb on a double layer to be exact. Before DVD-Rom could only store 7.5gb. Another advantage is that the opponent AI is better. It offers a higher level of difficulty. Having more memory also allows more humor when you attack enemies. For example: When you attack an enemy with your wrench, instead of the enemy just moving backwards a few feet they will actually flip and land of there head or fall off a cliff or something. I could go on and on about gameplay but the only way that you are going to truly appreciate it is if you play the game your self.
Graphics-10/10: Nothing wrong. Perfect. The weapons are eye boggling. The detail on enemies couldn't be better. You can see every single one of Ratchet's many hairs. He almost doesn't look the same. He doesn't look as cartoon like. Clank has many facets on his head that you can only see on ToD. The landscape and even all the plants are all in 720p High Definition. If you walk through a plant it moves around. You look up in the sky and you see flying cars, ships, and birds. You can jump on bolt crates and they will fall over. You shoot out a weapon and you all the details of the ammunition. Bolts are even fantastic in detail and number. If there are 200 bolts in a crate the actually show that many. Unlike all of the other games which only would only show 4 or 5. Again I can only say so much. You will have to see for your self.
Music/Audio-9/10: Good music goes along with each level. You can hear everything clear in blu-ray High Definition audio. You can walk by pirates in your disguise and see them talking to one another. You can shoot out you Groveton and hear the cheesy 70's music that enemies can't help but dance too. Explosions sound real too. Nothing really is wrong with it.
Camera-10/10: It is good in both 3rd person and Lock-Strafe. You can change how fast that you want to make it move and which direction that you want it to move in when you pres up or down left or right on the thumb stick. Nothing wrong here.
Buy or rent- Buy. I recommend however buying at least Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal first though. I recommend all Ratchet & Clank games. But this one is at the top of my list.
