Dead Space
Review by CodamusMaximus
"Dead Space is a breath of fresh air"
First off, Dead Space is a breath of fresh air for the PS3. Most of us PS3 owners know that PS3 was lacking in games during the majority of 2008. Especially in the horror genre and in a good TPS. When October rolled around Dead Space was soon to hit the shelves. Now I was excited for Dead Space but I got so much more out of this game then I thought I would. Lets start
Graphics: 10/10
The Graphics in Dead Space are amazing especially some of the details in the backgrounds. When you look out of some of the windows on the Ishimura the backgrounds will blow you away, they look so good and detailed. Also the monster designs in this game are very awesome. All of the monsters in Dead Space are very unique and they all have a unique trait to them. The design of the main character, Isaac Clarke, is also very cool. Your RIG which is your suit, is designed to function very user friendly and it does deliver. The RIG IMO looks awesome, also your RIG has your health status on your back which is very unique I thought. But overall, Dead Space graphics are very well done.
Sound: 9/10
The sound in Dead Space is pretty good. All of the weapon sounds are amazing, the weapons all sound brutal. The voice acting is also very good. Nothing really sounds to cheesy. The only draw back to me with the sound was the sound of some of the necromorphs. Now the majority of the monsters sounded awesome, but there were some cases when I was playing I could tell that a person did the sounds for a necromorph and it came off very cheesy to me. At one part it sounded like a person gargling and as soon as I heard it, I started laughing just because it was such a fake monster sound. Besides some of the cheesy monster sounds, Dead Space sounds are rather good.
Gameplay: 10/10
The gameplay in Dead Space is very entertaining. Shooting the limbs off monsters, Come on whats more fun than that. The focus of the gameplay is Dismembering the necromorphs, which makes Dead Space so enjoyable. In every TPS its always about Head shots and body shots. In Dead Space, head shots are effective but you'll want to dismember the necromorph first by blowing off their legs, arms, or tentacles. Shooting them in the chest will really do you no good. Its all about Dismemberment in this game. Also, there are some puzzles in Dead Space. Majority of the puzzles are very easy to figure out, especially because of your RIG, you can hold your hand out and a blue line will tell you exactly where to go. There is a couple puzzles that will take a little bit of thinking though. Overall Dead Space gameplay is very very entertaining.
Storyline: 9/10
Dead Space storyline is pretty cool, your sent to the Ishimura to investigate whats happening on the ship. When you arrive on the Ishimura you soon learn that all hell has broken loose. Some parts of the story are hard to understand and dont make alot of since, even after I beat the game I didnt understand some things. So the story is flawed in some sinces but it is overall pretty cool.
Replay value: 10/10
Dead Space has a very high replay value. There are several trophies to get and come on you get to Dismember monsters, that never gets old.
