"A bland average third person shooter"

Dark Sector is a game like many others. There are some areas where it succeeds and many where it fails utterly. I have not completed the game but played a good share of it (and heard its pretty short anyhow). So onto the review.

Story: 1/10
Okay in the beginning we are shown video of some person on a boat. Then we are thrust into the hands of the main character who I don't even know has a name (probably does). We are given brief details on how we're looking for some person and how we could get infected and whatnot. The story, if it were there, seems pretty cliche and is practically nonexistent.

Game play: 8/10
I was hoping the game play would make the game better and it does, sort of. If you've played resident Evil 4 or Gears of War, then you will feel right at home with Dark Sector. The controls are pretty easy to follow. Following the first chapter, we are introduced to the Glaive, a weapon that mysteriously comes about after the main character becomes infected. It is pretty cool at first using the glaive to melee and dismember enemies. However, it makes using the actual guns quite useless seeing as how you don't have any ammo for the glaive. Also the number of enemies that come at the main character makes fights become redundant and tiresome. I grew quite bored having to unleash my glaive again and again till the enemies died.

Graphics: 9/10
This is one department that the game is pretty good at. While it gets very dark in some areas of the game, I felt the graphics were well polished and running smoothly. I only wish that the game has destructible environments. For example, when you use your glaive slashing a trash bag, I wish there were dents or slash marks to show there was damage. However this is quite an old game (for its time) so I won't mark it down for that.

Sound: 7/10
The sound was average. I didn't hate or nor did I like it. I felt it was not there. I will say however the voice acting sounds pretty good, it is not grating to the ears or annoying.

Replay value: ?/10
I have terrible online connection so I cannot say anything about this section. However, due to this other better online games out there, I hear there are only few who still play this game online.

Final Words: 6/10 (not an average)
There are other games out there far better than this. It is very cheap now, below 10 dollars for a new copy. So if you want you can try this game for yourself if you've the spare cash.
