1. Version History

1.0: (09/19/05) Just completed the entire SS4 GOku Build-Up FAQ.

1.1: (10/24/05) Added the Version History section, added Neoseeker.com to
the Credits section, made some grammatical changes and corrected an
error in the Move Descriptions sub-section for Meteor Smashes.

2. Forewarning

   - This FAQ is intended for use only by those who are familiar with the Build
Up Mode of DBGT: Final Bout. Furthermore, if you did not read the title
of this FAQ, this is only covers strategies for Super Saiyan 4 Goku (some
of the material can be applied to other characters though). If you really
do not know how to play this game, you better read the other FAQs on this
game first. Keeping this in mind will make this FAQ easier to understand.
===============================================================================
3. Why did I write this FAQ?

   - All right, I will admit that DBGT: Final Bout is not the greatest game
created and if it were not for the Build-Up Mode feature, I would have
dumped this game in a second. Many people who play Build-Up Mode finish
all seven blocks and end up at level 50-60. I'm writing this FAQ to bring
to light the complexities and rewards of building up a character (in this
case, Super Saiyan 4 Goku). Another thing to note is that I am writing
this FAQ because NO ONE (and I mean NO ONE) has written any type of FAQ
focused on Build-Up Mode (even though this one is focused on SS4 Goku).
This is my first FAQ for any website, so try to bear with me.
===============================================================================
4. Strengths of SS4 Goku

   - Possibly the strongest character in the game, SS4 Goku has many strengths,
     which include:
+VERY strong, physically (his punches do tons of damage!)
+Defense is much higher than all other characters
+Attacks are quite fast (kick and punch combos!)
+VERY strong energy attack (the Kamehameha although it is slow)
+Basically, all of his attacks are strong (duh...)
===============================================================================
5. Weaknesses of SS4 Goku

   - Like every other character, SS4 Goku has his strengths and areas needing
improvement (or working around at least), which include:
-RIDICULOUSLY slow (he moves backwards faster than forward!)
-Some attacks are very slow to initiate
-Acts cocky (not really a weakness but it is a reason why he moves
            slowly!)
-Basically, SS4 Goku is not a speed demon despite being super saiyan
            (which really sucks)
===============================================================================
6. What does all of this mean?

   - Well, speaking of the obvious, SS4 Goku's low mobility makes for a tough
fight against the faster characters like Vegito or Little Goku. SS4 Goku
can do SERIOUS damage given that he is close enough to do so. He has many
moves that you can use to advance closer to opponents. Once you are in
range, use punches and combos to shut down your opponent.
===============================================================================
7. Super Saiyan 4 Goku's Move List

   - I will discuss each of SS4 Goku's moves in detail (i.e. usefulness, for
building up, etc.). Be fully accustomed to his repetoire of attacks/moves
and remember that the move is only as good as the person executing it.
Once you get this down, you'll be able to own any opponent.

() Denotes the input command to initiate to perform the corresponding move.

a. Basic Attacks: Punch (Square)
               Kick (Circle)
               Energy Shot (Triangle)
Knockdown Attack (X when in close)
Crouching Punch (Hold Down and press Square)
Crouching Kick (Hold Down and press Circle)

b. Special Attacks: Punch Combo (Down, Forward, Square)
Kick Combo (Back, Down, Forward, Circle)
                    Dash Elbow (Forward, Forward, Square)
                    Rising Kicks (Down, Up, Circle)
Dive Kick (While jumping, press Forward, Down, Circle)
Triple Energy Shot (Down, Forward, Triangle)
Weak Kamehameha (Back, Down, Forward, Triangle)
Strong Kamehameha (Down, Back Forward, Triangle)
Meteor Smash (Hold Forward and press R2, then press either:
                                  Triangle+Circle, Triangle+Square, or Triangle
                                  +X repeatedly)

c. Move Descriptions:

   -Punch (Square):
This is one of SS4 Goku's best moves. I know what you're thinking, "How is
a punch his best move!?" I'll give you three reasons why: 1. It is a great
advancing attack, 2. It is FAST for a punch, and 3. *You can "trap" your
opponent with this punch. The bottom line: This attack will spell defeat
for any opponent if you build it up. Try to abuse it when you are in close.

   *Punch "Trap":
What is punch "trap" exactly? Well, this is the endless barrage of punches
that your Ss4 Goku can perform by simply pressing Square. To be more
specific, when you successfully punch your opponent, he or she will stagger
back, usually not too far away but close enough for you to connect with
another punch, then another, until your opponent is knocked out. There are
some characters that the punch "trap" will not work against. Goku, S. Goku
and S.S. Goku stagger back too far that eventually, your punch will be out
of range. You can dash in and try to start it again but you run the risk
of getting hit by a counterattack. Kid Buu, L. Goku and S.L. Goku are too
small for the punch "trap" to hit so don't even try it. Everyone else will
fall prey to the punch "trap", so use this to build up against super tough
opponents (like the characters in Blocks 5 and up).

   -Kick (Circle):
This is one of SS4 Goku's worst moves. It is so SLOW that even Cell (who's
much slower) can dodge it. If you're interested in building all moves,
build this one early to eliminate the need to endure frustration later on.

   -Energy Shot (Triangle):
Slightly more powerful than other characters' Energy Shots, SS4 Goku fires
pretty fast (he barely raises his arm to fire it!). This attack is good
when an opponent misses an attack, or as a counterattack. DON'T build this
attack until you are at level 90 (I will discuss why later on...).

-Knockdown Attack (X when in close):
Yet another one of SS4 Goku's downfalls. In fact, pretty much all other
characters have a crappy Knockdown Attack. If you choose not to build this
it does not matter much since it is not very useful. If you, luckily, get
an opponent from behind, and your quick enough, this attack can connect.
Otherwise, this attack is pretty useless.

-Crouching Punch (Hold Down and press Squeare):
Regular punch and crouching punch are entwined so if you build either one,
the other will build as well. Use the regular punch for build up as the
crouching punch is much slower and has less range.

-Crouching Kick (Hold Down and press Circle):
Regular kick and crouching kick are also entwined so if you build either,
the other will build as well. Use the regular kick as the crouching kick
    is extremely slow in comparison.

   -Punch Combo (Down, Forward, Square):
When in close range, you will annihilate any opponent using this attack and
if you build it, blocking won't even help your opponent in defense. Use
it correctly and watch your opponent's health diminish. Punch combo is a
great way to close medium-range distance. This attack can be cancelled and
you may find it advantageous to do so (input Down, Forward, Square while
combo is happening) to allow yourself to throw in other attacks such as a
    punch or another combo!

-Kick Combo (Back, Down, Forward, Circle):
This attack is another one of SS4 Goku's better moves. However, it doesn't
advance very well so use only in close range. For some strange reason, the
kick combo is entwined with the punch combo, so build either one (I prefer
the punch combo still). Like the punch combo, the kick combo is able to be
cancelled by inputting the same command while the combo is happening.

   -Dash Elbow (Forward, Forward, Square):
Many characters in DBGT: Final Bout have a dash elbow-type move, but SS4
Goku's is by far the best. It is fast, has good reach, and is damaging. It
should be used to close the distance and punish foolish opponents! As for
building up this attack, there's a little trick you can utilize in matches.
The camera angle changes when you do this attack, so you can actually use
multiple dash elbows at a time. First, perform the attack and when it hits
alternate pressing forward, square, forward, square...etc., repeatedly, and
SS4 Goku will perform more dash elbows. You can get off many dash elbows
    with this trick!

   -Rising Kicks (Down, Up, Circle):
An average move to say the least, it still has its uses. It can knock down
opponents in the air or on the ground, setting them up for the offensive.
If you can get it off on an opponent from behind, all three hits have the
possibility of connecting. Building this attack is very tough. However,
you can rising kick your opponent, dash up to them, then do it again (this
takes a lot of patience). Sorry, I have not found a faster way to build
    this attack (not yet anyway).

-Dive Kick (While jumping, press Forward, Down, Circle):
Gohan and Piccolo's air attacks are much better than this, so don't bother
with this one. Luckily, this attack appears to be entwined with kicks so
it can be strong even if you don't use it. Most of the time, this attack
is either be blocked or dodged. If you're good at timing attacks, this
    may be useful for you.

-Triple Energy Shot (Down, Forward, Triangle):
SS4 Goku fires three consecutive energy shots. Pretty much the same as the
energy shot. See "Energy Shot" for details. DO NOT use until you are at
level 90 at the very least.

-Weak Kamehameha (Back, Down, Forward, Triangle):
Much like the strong version of the Kamehameha but about twice as fast (but
still not as fast as Vegito's energy atttacks). If you're going to use an
energy attack, this one is the best choice of the two because it has the
best chance of actually hitting. Building any energy attack requires time
and patience and this one is no exception.

-Strong Kamehameha (Down, Back, Forward, Triangle):
Despite the fact that it is strong, the kamehameha is SLOW. If demo is ON,
then its fine (if you are good at the energy clash struggle thing). Do not
use this at close range unless your opponent is stunned or you will get hit
or miss completely. The bottom line: Strength does not always come fast.

-Meteor Smash (See move list for input commands):
Some people turn this OFF, but I'm not some people. Not only do Meteor
Smashes look cool, they can be damaging provided you put time into building
them up. These are trick to initiate but here are some tips: 1. M.S. seem
to have a better chance of connecting if your opponent is in the air as
opposed to the ground. 2. If you are close to the end of your health meter
M.S. are even harder to initiate so don't try it in this case. 3. Once you
    hit with R2, immediately tap Square+Triangle, Triangle+Circle or Triangle+
X quickly (about five times, not guaranteed, but has a better chance or
actually initiating). Following these tips will increase your chances of
pulling off this cool attack. Timing is the key.
===============================================================================
8. Build-Up Mode

   - In this mode, you fight with opponents in up to seven "blocks" or levels.
As you fight you gain BP (battle points) whether you lose or win. Beat
opponents of a specific block to unlock a hidden character to fight! Any
characters built up in this mode can be used for a "Build-Up Tournament"
against other built-up characters (including your own if you build up more
     than one character).

   - You start out at level one with no BP. You may get killed easily by your
first opponent if you are not careful. Be patient, with the methods of
building up that I will describe, you will be on your way to reaching LVL.
250 (YES, 250!! It IS possible WITHOUT CHEAT DEVICES LIKE THE GAMESHARK!!)

   - Some things you will notice about your characters are obvious things such
as: 1. Your life is only in red about half full starting at level one.
         2. Your Ki energy recovers very slowly at level one.
         3. Your attacks are weak, VERY WEAK, starting out.

   - As your level increase, numbers 1 and 2 mentioned above will improve. If
you use a cheat device to become level 250, you will find that your attack
is still weak as well as your defense, so earn level 250 the honest way!

   - The life bar progresses as follows: *The silver bar only goes about 1/3
1st bar: Red full. It won't increase anymore due
2nd bar: Yellow to this being the level 250 life bar.
     3rd bar: Green
4th bar: Light Blue -Ki energy recovery is insanely fast,
5th bar: Blue recovering at a rate of about 6.6%.
6th bar: Dark Red If you hold Square+X to recharge, you
7th bar: Dark Yellow will fully recharge in about a second
8th bar: Dark Green (This is why higher levels make using
9th bar: Dark Blue energy attacks easier since you will
*10th bar: Silver be able to recover quickly).

10. Build-Up Mode Tips

-Some things to remember when building up your opponent are:

-Simply running trhough all seven blocks of Build-Up Mode will not get you
a strong character. You should re-fight characters from earlier blocks
to further build up your attacks.

-One way to gain levels quickly is by fighting the strongest character in
the block you're on right off the bat. It is tough, but you can gain five
or more levels by doing this (and SS4 Goku's punch "trap" certainly helps
     here!).

-Build every attack that your character has. Sure, matches may take longer
but you'll save yourself from wasting time going back when you discover
that some of your attacks do pitiful amounts of damage.

-You gain BP only when you hit your opponent with an attack (even if it is
blocked). If you build an attack to the point where it defeats any
opponent in one blow, don't use it and expect to gain any BP (you'll gain
     1-2 BP or sometimes none!!).

-If you like using energy attacks, I have found out a way to recharge your
Ki energy if it is about to be depleted entirely. When you use an energy
attack and your Ki energy is low, your character becomes "tired", but if
you hold Square+X immediately after performing the energy attack and
rotate your control pad repeatedly, you should see your ki energy recharge
almost immediately after hitting zero in your Ki energy meter. Using this
trick will guarantee that you never become "tired" from using any type of
energy attack, no matter where your Ki energy level is at.

-Opponents controlled by the CPU are GOOD at meteor smashes. However, it
is easy to counter them by simply inputting your own M.S. commands (fast).

-All characters specialize in either energy or physical offense. To be the
strongest, make your character specialize in both. Versatility is very
important! Turn any weaknesses your character has into strengths!

-Keep in mind that you can turn off Demo or Meteor Smash in Option mode.
Some of the characters capitalize on either of these two types of attacks
so you can "cheat" by making demo energy attacks and meteor smashes
unusable by all players and CPUs alike.
===============================================================================
11. Opponent Strategies

-I will detail which characters are good to build-up against. Note that
there are only a few. I will also mention patterns of attack that the
     opponents will use.

   a. Little Goku (Bad to build-up against)

-The fact that he is little makes thing tougher for SS4 Goku. Luckily,
the punch combo (Down, Forward, Square) can reach despite L. Goku's mini
stature. The standard punch will miss completely so don't use it. Also,
       L. Goku likes to jump a lot so if you can time it, you can get off a
kamehameha on him. Be wary of his offensive; given the opportunity,
Little Goku can really dish out the damage with his combos so be wary of
that. Just keep the pressure on Little Goku and you'll have no problem.

   b. Pan (The BEST to build-up against)

-I am very happy Pan was put in this game. No, I'm not a Pan-fan; she is
the reason why leveling up to 250 is not impossible. The build-up trick
with Pan is very extensive so I'll cover that in a separate section. As
for fighting Pan, she is predictable. At the start of the match, she'll
do one of three things: she will do her frontflip kick attack (which you
can just block), walk toward you and attack (again, blocking helps here)
or use the Triple Energy Shot attack (once again, block). Most of the
time, Pan is aggressive so if you play defensively, she's easily beat.
But perhaps 'aggressive' is an overstatement...

   c. Trunks (Pretty good to build-up against)

-This where you'll be able to practice the punch "trap" that I mentioned
in the move description section. You can and will win this one with
the Square button! When you hit Trunks, he rears back allowing you to
connect with another attack. "Trap" punches are when you hit your
opponent, then immediately with another punch. DBGT: Final Bout is
definitely not a fast-paced game as other fighting games are so use the
"Trap" punches often on any opponent except for L. Goku, Super L. Goku,
Kid Buu since these characters are too small. Trunks often never blocks
so you can pretty much use anything in this match.

   d. Piccolo (Bad to build-up against)

-The Namekian warrior will prove to be no match for SS4 Goku's immense
power. He often uses energy shots and his air move (like SS4 Goku's
Dive Kick). This is easy to dodge but you may find it better to simply
block the attack, leaving Piccolo open for a counterattack. Once again,
the punch "trap" works well in this match. Supplement these punches
with the punch (or kick) combo for an easy win over the Namekian.

   e. Gohan (Bad to build-up against)

-Fights a little like Piccolo. Gohan also has the air move of Piccolo.
Gohan is an all-around fighter, using his energy attacks whil far away
and his physical attacks when in close (obviously). "Trap" punches work
well against Gohan (it works on pretty much all of the normal-sized
characters) or if you prefer to end the match quickly, use SS4 Goku's
       punch or kick combo.

   f. Frieza (Pretty good to build-up against)

-At the higher blocks, he is very annoying. Frieza's specialties are his
energy attacks. His energy shots come out fast so you must be patient
and wait for an opening to attack. If the battle takes to the air, be
careful especially when it comes to Frieza's energy shots (as he fires
continuously, ending the match for you very quickly). Frieza also likes
to use Death Ball (which, by the way, is easy to dodge, so be ready to
counter). Punches work well here as you should realize by now. Phys.
attacks are not Frieza's strong point but he still mixes in his tail
attacks with dash elbows. Overall, beating Frieza just takes times and
       carefully placed attacks.

   g. Cell (Great to build-up against)

-Cell is perhaps one of the easiest characters in the game to beat. The
problem with Cell is that he is too big of a target and too slow (in all
aspects). You can win this match using the punch button but you should
mix up your attacks to build SS4 Goku's other attacks. I won't go into
detail about Cell's attacks because they are so slow that you'll have
ample time to dodge or block them.

   h. Kid Buu (Bad to build-up against)

-For those of you who don't know, Kid Buu is Majin Buu's final form (it
seems like he gets smaller as he gets stronger, doesn't it?) and he is
no pushover. Just the opposite of Cell, Kid Buu is the smallest of all
characters in the game. By simply ducking, Buu can dodge SS4 Goku's
standard punch, energy shots and most of the hits of his punch combo.
Kamehamehas will miss at such a small target as well, so what do we do?
Do we give up? Of course not! Okay, what I said about the SS4 Goku's
Kamehameha attacks is partially true for Kid Buu. In most matches, Kid
Buu jumps back and keeps doing so for some reason (if you try for energy
attacks). If you can time an energy attack just as he is coming down,
you'll nail him. Kid Buu's energy shot (Down, Forward, Triangle) is a
five-shot one that fires in different directions. Unless you're in the
air, you'll probably have to block this attack. Also, sometimes Buu
stands still and make like he is giggling at you or something. KEEP the
distance as he is performing his self-destruct attack, which is very
damaging (however, you'll learn to see it coming and dodge it easily so
be ready with a counterattack). Fighting Buu just takes a little know-
how on your part, but after fighting him multiple times, you'll have an
easier time beating him later on.

   i. Vegeta (Okay to build-up against)

-The Prince of Saiyans, always wants to beat down Goku, but you're a
Super Saiyan 4 and odds are he's not going to win this encounter. Near
95% of the time, Vegeta starts the match by immediately using a Triple
Energy Shot attack so block these. What can I say? Vegeta, like most
other characters, falls prey to the punch "trap" and combo attacks o
SS4 Goku. For this match, offense is key just as much as defense is.

   j. Goku (Pretty good to build-up against)

-Plain, old Goku from the GT saga before he was turned into a kid again
and just because he's taking on his Super Saiyan 4 form doesn't mean he
is going to lose, right? Wrong. Of course SS4 Goku will whup Goku.
Like Vegeta, Goku seems to start matches off by using a Triple Energy
Shot attack. The punch "trap" and punch combo can work fine here, but
the problem with punching Goku regularly is that it causes him to rear
back far, eventually putting your punch out of range. Use the punch
or kick combo instead. Also, don't be careless and you'll breeze
       through this match with ease.

   k. Super Little Goku (Bad to build-up against)

-You can refer to the Little Goku section for tips instead of me simply
repeating the same things. The obvious difference is that this form is
considerably stronger so take care against Super Little Goku. He has a
very devastating offense so don't mess around.

   l. Super Trunks (Pretty good to build-up against)

-Refer to the Trunks section as this form fights the exact same way as
Trunks does. Strength is a tad-bit higher but not by much.

   m. Super Goku (Pretty good to build-up against)

-Refer to Goku's section for strategies. The two differences between the
Super form and the regular form is their punch and kick combo attacks.
The Super form of the combo attacks are very damaging and have more hits
so try to dodge often, but block if you must.

   n. Super Saiyan Trunks (Great to build-up against)

-This it the Trunks form from the Z Sagas of Dragonball (when he is from
the future). His stance is different and his power is at the highest
level in this form. His attack patterns are not too different from the
other Trunks forms (regular and Super) so once again, refer to Trunks's
sections for tips. Why does Trunks get three characters in DBGT:FB and
Vegeta gets just one? They could've put Vegeta's SS4 form in this game.
       What's the deal?

   o. Super Saiyan GOku (Great to build-up against)

-Goku's got the old orange suit on in this form. This is Goku's best
regular Super Saiyan form. This form has a different kick combo from
Super form of Goku. Refer to Goku strategies for this fight. Despite
increases in power, you still shouldn't have too many problems with him.

   p. Vegito (Great to build-up against)

-What do you get when you fuse a Vegeta and a Goku? Vegito sounds about
right. This is the fusion form of the two Saiyans. He is the 2nd best
character in the game and he can do many thing other characters can't.
All of Vegito's energy attacks are FAST and have a small start-up time.
It is a shame that the CPU does not utilize this amazing advantage (but
then again, you are fighting against him so this is a good thing). His
attacks in patterns that vary but some of his physical attacks are fast
while some lack in speed. Learn which ones leave him open for attacks.
Vegito can also fall prey to the punch "trap" and punch combo attack so
keep the pressure on. This match is not hard as long as you
attack relentlessly. Once again, patience is the key here!

   q. Super Saiyan 4 Goku (Great to build-up against)

-This is the last character you'll fight in build-up mode. You'd know
you're using him! Since you are now a SS4 Goku expert, fighting the SS4
form of Goku only takes time because of his very lengthy life bar. The
CPU likes to use energy shots a lot and the punch combo so be on your
guard. I won't go into detail about SS4 Goku's attack patterns since
he is actually not tough to beat. The CPU controlling him so of course
he won't be insanely difficult (changing difficulty doesn't seem to do
anything). After defeating SS4 you can now concentrate on completing
your quest to be level 250 (the legitimate way!).
===============================================================================
12. The Pan Build-Up Trick (for SS4 Goku)

-You can do this against any Pan (from Blocks 1-7) and depending on what
you choose to build up, you may end up with an instant-death punch attack
or kick, or combo attack. If you haven't used your punch combo a lot, you
will be able to reach Level 250 fairly quickly. There are two methods
that I will describe: one for the punch combo and one for the punch.

   a. Punch Combo Method

*This can only be done once and only if it is REALLY WEAK

-This is undoubtedly the faster way to reach Level 250 since you'll be
doing 10+ hits at a time. First, choose Pan (preferably at Block 7) to
fight against in Build-Up Mode. Now, first you must find out (if you
are not sure) if your punch combo is too strong to do this trick or not.
When the fight begins, immediately do a regular kick. Pause the game.
Look at Pan. If you did it correctly, Pan should block it and all other
punches. Pause the game again. As long as you keep performing attacks
at a consistent pace, Pan will always block (DO NOT USE ENERGY ATTACKS
OF ANY KIND AS PAN WILL NOT BLOCK THESE!!). Keep in mind that this only
refers to physical attacks. Okay, keep punching the guarding Pan, then
get ready to do the punch combo (DOwn, Forward, Square). Watch Pan's
life bar. If she doesn't take any guard damage from the combo, then you
are set! Just keep performing punch combo after punch combo for maybe a
couple of hours (seriously), then defeat her when you're done (or lose,
but either way, you'll gain the BP). Your level should have gone up by
a lot. I did this for a half hour with a level one SS4 Goku and gained
45 levels!! Now if you don't have the patience to do this or if your
combo is too strong that Pan sustains heavy damage even when she blocks,
use the second method (which I will describe next).

   b. Punch Method

-This method is easier to do because Pan won't take damage from blocking
a standard punch, no matter how strong it is. It is still fine to have
a weak punch to build and, in fact, I recommend it if you're going to
use a rapid fire controller. When fighting Pan (Block 7!), get her to
block by doing a kick (Circle) about mid-range so it "almost" hits her.
Once she is in block stance, immediately start mashing the Square
button. Pan will block all punches, so set the controller on turbo for
the Square button so you don't have to sit there for hours watching
SS4 Goku punch Pan. Turn off your T.V. and make sure to check every
now and then to make sure Pan is still blocking. *WARNING* This may
cause problems to your T.V. which is why the T.V. should be turned off.
Also, be sure to give your Playstation a break after doing the Build-Up
       Trick, a looooong break...
