~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After selecting the "New Game" option, but before you start playing, you will
be prompted to choose between a number of settings which will determine how
the game is played. First we have the simple ones like audio settings which
are quite straightforward. Same applies for vibration settings (controller
rumble feature.) Now when we get to the point where we choose a main
character, that's where it branches out a little. The difference between the
main characters is neither trivial, nor major. The story remains mostly the
same and the gameplay is unchanged. What is altered however is the
perspective you see during some parts of the story, the characters who join
your party, Private Actions, and a few other small little changes.
For the most part it is generally accepted that Claude is just marginally the
better character to choose. Note that this doesn't determine who you will
control in battle (you can control any character.) With Claude, you will get
Leon in your party, and with Rena you get Dias. Neither are really all that
great, although if you like having magic casters in your party then Leon is
the one you want. If you like physical fighters, there are still better
options than Dias in either story. The main differences is that you will get
a better overall picture of the story from Claude's perspective, and you can
get an extra suit of one of the best pieces of armour in the game only by
playing Claude's scenario. Ultima3tely however, the decision is yours. This
guide will cover both characters, so scroll down to the walkthrough section
specifically written for whichever character you choose when done here.
Naming the character isn't all that important since you can actually change
their name as many times as you like, whenever you want during the game right
from the status menu. Choosing the combat mode is a fairly big decision
(though an obvious one.) The best way to go is Full Active which gives you
constant control of your character. The other ones are basically less active
in terms of player control. Select the one you want, and get ready to begin!
THE STORY SO FAR: The game begins with a voice-over by Claude, our main
character.. He speaks of a great man who made admiral of the federation
at a younger age than anyone before him. This man is Claude's father whom
he respects greatly, however Claude is ambitious and wants to be known as
more than just the son of Ronixis. When we first see Claude, he is
accompanying his father on a mission to a strange planet. He is given a
Phase Gun by his father in honour of his new rank as ensign, knowing that
he may be forced to defend himself at any point. Since no one seems to be
able to identify the odd magnetic field coming from up ahead, the team
decides to investigate the phenomenon. Before long you will have control.
______________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let me give this one quick tip before anything else. It's not something you
need to fully understand, but it is something you will seriously want to
consider. In this game every character you get has special abilities called
"talents" which aren't used directly, but they factor in when doing other
things. Characters who do not start with specific talents can learn them
through practice of various skills. Among the more difficult talents to learn
this way is the talent "Dexterity" which governs skill with the fingers.
Primarily this factors heavily into the success of the important Pickpocketing
skill. If you have any interest in using this skill then it's probably in
your best interests to have your main character with the Dexterity talent.
Talents for the main character are randomly assigned at the beginning of the
game. Open up your menu when you first get the chance and select "skills."
Now press the triangle button again, then again to bring up the talent list.
If you don't see Dexterity there then it might be a good idea to reset the
game, start a new file and try again to see if you get it. Doing this is much
easier and takes far less time then trying to learn the talent if you did not
start with it. Obviously this is not a requirement, I just thought I would
let you know that this is the easiest way to ensure that you have it.
Approach the weird looking control panel on the left side and press the X
button to examine it. When you do, the scene will take over again.
Fortunately the science officer is able to use the control panel to get the
door open. On the other side note the weird purple sphere with rings circling
around it. This is what save points look like in Star Ocean: The Second
Story. If you stand on the save point (listen for a noise to confirm) and
open up the menu with the triangle button then you can save your game there.
When you're ready to continue, make your way up toward the device.
____________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THE STORY SO FAR: Ronixis calls to Claude telling him to get away from the
device before they have had more time to study it. Claude, being the
reckless young man that he is, decides that there is likely very little
danger associated with it and proceeds to check it out anyway. The
beeping and blooping of coordinates being sent precede Claude's sudden
gravitational movement toward the device which reacts in a flash of light
causing him to be sucked away along with the device itself.
Claude wakes up alone in the middle of some forest, an environment
entirely different from where he just was. Unfortunately his communicator
doesn't seem to be within range of anyone else. The only explanation is
that the device beamed him somewhere, possibly to an underdeveloped planet
of some kind. There isn't much time to think about this however as Claude
catches a glimpse of a young girl... being stalked by a large gorilla
monster! No time to think about what he's doing, Claude leaps into battle!
______________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This will be your first experience with the Star Ocean: The Second Story
combat system. Things are relatively simple the first time around, and it's
virtually impossible for you to lose this battle. Take a moment to
familiarize yourself with the controls if you haven't played the game before.
Remember that Phase Gun that Ronixis gave you earlier? Well it's still
functioning at full capacity. The battle practically wins itself if you keep
tapping the Phase Gun (L1) button over and over again until the monster dies.
Also note that you will automatically gain a level in this battle and receive
one skill point. I'll briefly discuss skill point allocation when you have
control of your character again. For now just keep watching the scene.
____________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THE STORY SO FAR: Uh oh! Using a powerful energy on an underdeveloped
planet? That's a direct violation of the prime directive right there.
Claude's worried, but there are more pressing issues to deal with for the
moment. The girl he just saved, who seems frightened of his awesome
power, turns and high-tails it out of there without even a word of thanks.
Claude needs to follow he left to the next screen where he'll find her
waiting for him. Apparently she was simply overcome with shock after
seeing the energy weapon. She introduces herself as Rena Lanford.
Claude has an odd question for Rena. He wants to know where they are.
Not just the village or continent... but the planet. Rena takes him back
to the nearby village and asks where he comes from. Claude mentions that
he comes from Earth, which she of course would never understand, so he
lies and tells her that it's more of a far off country. The two of them
arrive in the small village of Arlia so Rena can thank him formally.
Rena needs to make a trip home to her house, so she invites you to wander
around the village and explore before meeting up with her again. This will
give you a good chance to get used to where everything is, and more
importantly how everything works. Open up the menu and select "Skills".
Remember that one skill point you got? Well you can use that point (and more
that you receive by leveling up) to increase the various skills you see here.
Of course you'll learn more as the game goes on. Just keep in mind that it's
important to raise you skills to progress and strengthen your characters.
Now let's start exploring the town to see what we can find. Begin by going
into the building before the bridge, just up and to your left. This is the
town church. Not much going on in here although you do get to here your first
reference to "The Warrior" which will come into play a little bit later.
Cross the bridge outside and go into the large building with the red roof.
This is the home of the lovey-dovey newlywed couple. Go upstairs in the house
and you will find two treasure chests, one containing 'Blueberry' and the
other containing 'Rose Hips.' Leave this house and go right to the next area.
In front of the shop you will see three treasure chests. Open them up to
receive 'Leather Armor,' '200 Fol,' and 'Resurrection Bottle.' The Leather
Armor will be equipped automatically on your character. At the beginning of
the game, new and stronger equipment is automatically equipped on your
characters (you can still change it manually of course.) You can disable this
equipment wizard simply by equipping something manually, or turning it off by
pressing the triangle button in the equip menu. Also worthy of note is that
the 200 Fol you just found in the chest is money, Fol is the game's currency.
Enter the shop just above these three treasure chests. This is the general
store of Arlia Village where you can buy various items to help you on your
quest. At this point in the game you cannot make any purchases, but don't
worry, you will be able to soon. Next you'll want to go into the house just
to the right of the store. Open the treasure chest in here to get some
'Strawberry Jam.' Exit this house and make your way down to the lower left
corner. This is Rena's house here by the water. Head inside when ready.
____________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THE STORY SO FAR: Inside Rena's house, Claude finds her speaking with her
mother who introducers herself as Westa. Her mother is concerned about
all the monsters inhabiting the Shingo Forest where Rena was attacked. If
Claude hadn't come along things could have been a lot worse. Rena shrugs
off her mother's worries and offers to give Claude a tour of the village.
______________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We'll begin by heading across the road to the mayor's house on the right side.
The mayor isn't home at the moment so there's not much you can do in here. Go
up from the mayor's residence into the house above with the two children.
Rena explains about how their father is gone all the time and she likes to
come by to keep the children company. Now proceed left to the General Store
once again. This time after listening to what Rena has to say, you will be
able to make a few purchases. When buying things in this game you use the
left and right buttons on the D-Pad to select the amount of each item you
want, then press X to complete the transaction. When you put your cursor over
a piece of equipment you will see an arrow over the characters in the window
above indicating whether the equipment is stronger (up) or weaker (down.) For
example, the Sandals here are "up" for both Claude and Rena so buy two pairs.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Make your way across to the west side of town now. Enter the house at the
upper left, home of the newlyweds. After Rena is done talking there's not
much else to see in here. Move down to the church across the bridge to the
south. Enter the church and listen to what Rena has to say. That about
covers all the buildings in this quaint little village. Now what you need to
do is turn around and go back to Rena's house where her mother is waiting.
____________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THE STORY SO FAR: Upon arriving home again, Claude and Rena find that her
mother has baked an enormous feast for them as a way of saying thanks to
Claude for what he did. After the meal later in the evening, Westa comes
upstairs to ask Claude how he liked his dinner. Before she can think too
much about it, Westa blurts out something about how bad she would feel if
"The Warrior" didn't like her cooking. Westa suddenly looks extremely
flustered, and Claude rather confused. Rena comes home and her mother
rushes downstairs leaving Claude to wonder exactly what just happened.
Claude can hear the conversation going on downstairs. Rena's mother tells
her that she accidentally mentioned this "Warrior." When Claude walks
downstairs the mayor of the village, Regis, is there as well. The
mayor starts to ask Claude about his journey, specific questions that
Claude does not seem to be able to answer. Regis then tells Claude that
in fact he is lying, and that he is really "The Warrior" from another
world who has come to rescue them. Their legends say that when the world
is in danger, a warrior wearing "alien raiments' and carrying a "Sword of
Light" will appear. Claude admits there are similarities, but says that
he is not a warrior of any kind and really isn't there to help them. This
coincidence is further compounded by the fact that there world is now in
danger. Something called the "Sorcery Globe" has recently descended down.
Regis explains: three months ago a meteorite from the sky landed on the
Continent of El. This meteorite came to be known as the "Sorcery Globe."
Ever since it landed, monsters have started appearing and creatures
becoming more violent throughout the land. Now with Claude appearing, the
legend seems to be coming true. Claude is unwilling to explain much about
his situation, but he is so sure that he is not the warrior of legend that
mayor Regis comes to believe him. Rena is very disappointed by this, so
much so that she runs out of the house. Regis says that she just needs
time to calm down after all that has happened. For now, Claude will be
free to stay in the village until he is able to figure out what to do.
______________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next morning, head downstairs and speak to mayor Regis. He says that your
best bet for now would be to head north to the town of Salva. Perhaps you
will be able to learn something more there. Since you are no longer able to
use your Sword of Light, he gives you a more traditional 'Long Sword" to
battle enemies. Before leaving, you might want to say one last goodbye to
Rena. You can find her in the Shingo Forest again standing in the area where
you first appeared. She is sorry that she confused Claude with the Warrior of
Light, after so many years of hearing the tale it's very understandable. As
you are leaving the forest, note the mysterious character clad in red standing
on the bridge. He doesn't have much to say now, but it's not the last time
you will meet. Head for the village's northern exit. A young boy gives you a
quick tip before you go. You will fight more battle and find harder enemies
on grasses and forests than if you stay on the main path. Keep it in mind.
We are finally on the world map. It's fairly simple to figure out however
everything works here. L1 and R1 buttons will spin the camera. As you run
along the path you may start encountering random battles which work the same
way as your first one did, except you'll be using your regular sword now
rather than the Sword of Light (although you can still use the Phase Gun, that
will all change after you've gone to Salva, so make use of it while you can.)

Welcome to the mining town of Salva, not quite as nice as Arlia Village, but
you'll probably find there is more to do. First of all the shopping is a lot
better in this town. Make your way straight up from the entrance and go into
the first house with the pink roof. This is the "Jam Store" and they sell
all kinds of jam (you'll find that relatively useless items are quite
commonplace in Star Ocean: The Second Story.) You'll find the town inn if you
head to the right a little bit. Only costs 10 Fol to rest overnight. Go up
the hill just above the inn and into the first shop. This is a combination
weapon and armour shop. Open up the treasure chest between the two vendors to
acquire the completely useless 'Heavy Ring.' Make sure to pick up whatever
new equipment that you can here to upgrade your characters.

Well you've about covered all there is to this lower section. Leave the shops
and head up to the northern section of Salva. Since there is little of
interest in the bar on the left side, the building you want to go into is Alen
Tax's house on the right side. He's not home right now, but that shouldn't
stop you from looting his house. Go upstairs and into the first room on your
left. Inside you will find a 'Portrait B,' a painting of Rena. Exactly why
does he have this in his house? Well no time to think about that now, since
we've exhausted all leads here in this town (none) there's little to do
besides head back to Arlia Village. Leave Salva and go there now.
____________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THE STORY SO FAR: Upon arriving back in Arlia Village again, Claude finds
Rena's mother and mayor Regis waiting by the gate. They explain that Rena
was carried off forcibly by Alen Tax, the son of the powerful mayor in the
neighboring village of Salva. There is no time to waste, Claude agrees
immediately to go and rescue her. Using the power of the Sword of Light
it should be no problem. It seems the mayor no longer objects to its use.
______________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Head up to the door of Alen's house only to find that it is locked. Sounds
like a job for that powerful Phase Gun of yours. Upon using it to blast open
the lock, Claude finds that the gun is drained of energy and will no longer
work. From this point on your will never be able to use the Phase Gun again
(time to start relying on that trusty sword of yours.) You can run wild
around the mansion if you so choose, but the solution to Rena's whereabouts
lies through the door on the right at the bottom of the stairs. After finding
'Rena's Hairpin' on the ground Claude will notice a sparkle on the statue over
in the right-hand corner. Examine it to move the bookshelf and reveal a
secret passage that goes down into the mine called the "Salva Drift."

Walk forward and speak to the man lying on the ground on your right. He'll
give you a little bit of background information on what happened. He says
that Rena is somewhere here in the mine. Something has happened to Alen, and
Claude can probably find both of them in the altar they built at the back.
Use the save point on the left side to save your game and then head up into
the mine itself. When you come to the first fork in the path, open up the two
treasure chests to acquire 'Rose Hips' and 'Blackberry.' Make a left at the
fork and go west to the next screen. If you go down from this point you'll
reach a dead end guarded by soldiers. Instead, keep going left and open up
the two treasure chests to get a 'Blueberry' as well as 'Silver.'
Return to the first fork in the road where you entered the mine and go up.
Keep going up on the next screen and open the treasure chest to get 'Iron.'
Now turn around and go back down a little bit. Just a little bit south of the
chest on the left side you can see the wall looks like a black vertical bar
(indicating that this is actually a path.) Follow this path left. Make
another left at this three way fork. You'll come across a sign that reads "To
Dragon's Nest" and won't let you go any further. You'll get the chance to
revisit this area later if you're trying to recruit one of the optional
characters. For now just go down a little from the sign to find 'Gold' in a
chest in the corner. Return to the previous screen and go up at the fork.
At the very top you will find a save point beside the door. Feel free to save
your game, but don't go through the door yet. Head left from the save point
and open the chest to get a pair of 'Spectacles.' You can see below there are
two other treasure chests. Go down and around to the left and take the
'Blueberry' and 'Gold.' Now heal your character, save your game, and go
through the door beside the save point (the other path to the right which I
did not mention just leads back to the hallway you were in before.)

THE STORY SO FAR: Claude arrives just in time to find Rena strapped to an
altar with Alen Tax there fully intent on forcefully marrying himself to
her. He doesn't seem to be speaking very sensibly however. Some kind of
green stone emits a powerful burst that knocks them both back, and then...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THE STORY SO FAR: With Alen Tax on the ground after battle, Rena seems
convinced that he must have been possessed. She remembers him being such
a nice guy. As Alen lies there struggling to breathe, Rena casts a heal
spell to help him out. Suddenly Alen seems like a changed man. He
doesn't know how he got to where he is, nor does he remember anything that
happened. Claude concludes that with the green stone gone, Alen is no
longer under its control. It must have been the stone the whole time.
The group returns back to the mansion where the whole situation is
explained to Alen. Despite not remembering any of it he is extremely
apologetic. Now that everything is back to normal, Claude and Rena agree
that they need to head back to Arlia to let everyone know they're okay.
THE STORY SO FAR: Claude and Rena return to Arlia to visit with Regis late
in the evening. As Regis and Claude are discussing the rock that took
control of Alen, Rena mentions the possible connection between that rock
and the Sorcery globe. Regis then asks Claude directly if he would be
willing to go and investigate the Sorcery Globe. Knowing that this is
likely no mere meteorite, Claude decides that it's probably something he
should be checking out. Unexpectedly, Rena pipes up saying that she would
like to join him. She knows the area quite well and her magic might be of
some use. Regis says that it might be a good idea assuming that her
mother gives permission. Regis says goodnight and the two leave his house.
After Rena has gone home and Claude heads back inside, Regis asks if they
can have a short talk. He begins asking Claude if he noticed things about
Rena, her healing ability for example which no one else seems to have. He
explains to Claude that Rena is not the real child of Westa. She was
found as a child in the Shingo Forest by her current mother. Even now she
still does not know according to Regis. There are no clues to her origins.
______________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just before you go to bed you'll hear a sound. That's Rena down on the
ground. Go out to the balcony and she'll say she wants to talk. When you
head downstairs and out the front door she's nowhere to be found. Go to the
west section of town and you'll see her waiting on the bridge.
____________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THE STORY SO FAR: As it turns out, Rena overhead the mayor and her mother
talking one night awhile ago after her father died. He mother regrets not
destroying the pendant which serves as the only link to her real mother.
Now Rena hopes that perhaps the pendant, and the journey she takes with
Claude might learn to her finding out about her real mother. With that,
Rena heads on home. The next morning everyone says goodbye at the town
gate. Regis gives them a letter of introduction to the king of Cross in
Cross castle which they should use to get an audience with him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The game has begun! You are now on the world map and free to progress as you
please. Let's get a few basics out of the way. First of all, you're going to
start leveling up a lot more now and getting a lot of skill points. Don't
just waste all the skill points you get on whatever skills you've got in your
menu. You'll not only be getting new skills soon, but if you can store as
many points as possible through the next few towns and dungeons, it won't be
too long until you learn a skill which actually allows you to put points into
it, and reduce the cost to learn other skills. Basically by saving skill
points now, you'll be wasting less in the long run since everything gets
cheaper. How you want to do it is up to you, but I recommend holding off.
Also note that Private Actions have now become available (since you have more
than a single party member.) When you step close to a town you will see the
"Private Action" icon which can be initiated by pressing square. When you do
this your party will split up in the town rather than stay together. This
allows you to converse with them and affect your relationship. Every
character in the game has a set number of relationship points with everyone
else. Depending on your actions those relationships change and will determine
what happens in the ending (there are more than 80 marginally different
endings in this game based on relationship factors.) Other factors like
fighting X number of battles with the same party members can raise
relationship points, so can reading books, but it's mostly about Private
Actions. As you go through this game I will list when a Private Action is
available, with what characters, how to do it, and what it does. For example:
____________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PRIVATE ACTION: Involving [Claude] and [Rena]. LOCATION [Arlia].
Requirements: After Rena has joined your party, but before staying at the
inn in Cross. Also available between the events in Mars
village and the Lacour Tournament of Arms.
Description: Head to Rena's house and go upstairs to her room to find her
there. When speaking to Rena you have three options:
- What about the past? [Relationship Points with Rena + 1]
- What kind of kid were you when you were young>
[Relationship Points with Rena - 1]
- Let's not talk about the past. How about the future? [N/A]
______________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Assuming you did the Private Action, make sure to grab the 'Blackberry' out of
the chest while you're in her room. Now that you've done your first Private
Action and gotten the hang of it, I'll keep you up to date on each one that
you can do as you go along (although I won't necessary cover them the
second they become available. If you get a character on some faraway island
in the middle of a dungeon, I'll wait until it's convenient to suggest going
back to the first town to do a Private Action with him/her. Remember that
there's always the full list of Private Actions later in this guide if you
want to pace yourself your own way.) For now, head off toward Salva!
____________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PRIVATE ACTION: Involving [Claude] and [Rena]. LOCATION [Salva].
Requirements: This Private Action has no requirements or prerequisites.
Description: You'll find Rena standing beside the shops down in the
southern part of town. Speak to her and she'll begin talking
about her father. When she asks Claude about his father he
begins having a flashback. Just prior to the mission where
Claude was sucked into the energy field and warped to the
Shingo Forest, he had a disagreement with his father about
who would join the landing party. Just as he is leaving
Claude can hear other officers talking behind his back about
how his career benefits so much from having a father like
that. It seems like Claude has always resented his father
for that. No relationship changes occur during this P.A.
______________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There is nothing else to do in Salva now. Leave the town and begin making
your way north. As you move the day will automatically turn into evening and
when you arrive in the town of Cross, night will have already fallen.

Since you arrived in the middle of the night, most every store is closed and
building locked. The only place open for business right now is the town inn.
Make your way there now (just up and to the left of the town entrance.)
____________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THE STORY SO FAR: Rena greets her Aunt Rachel who runs the town inn. Upon
seeing Claude she immediately starts joking with Rena about him being her
boyfriend (causing some extreme embarrassment.) She manages to find a
room for the two of them. As she walks them down there she casually
mentions that a "Mr. Flac" was recently a guest at the hotel. Claude
doesn't seem to know who exactly it is they are talking about. He asks
Rena once they get into the room and she tells him that he used to live in
Arlia, but left the town after an unfortunate incident. Nothing more is
said about it. Claude and Rena decide to freshen up and hit the hay.
______________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The town is now at your whim to explore. Let's take it a little bit at a time
shall we? It's certainly not the biggest city in the world, but there are
more than a couple places to visit. Also note that if you're going to do a
Private Action you might want to visit the weapons shop first, since your
party is split up they will not display in the shop menu, and you won't know
which equipment is better for them. The shopping district is located on the
west (left) side of town. The first one above you that you pass by is the
equipment shop that sells a number of nice upgrades to what you are wearing.

Outside of the equipment shop and just down a little bit, you'll find a person
standing among a bunch of pots. This is the tool shop. On the far left side
is a restaurant where you can buy food. Most importantly however is the
building with the large orange sign above it, this is the Skill Guild. Here
you can learn many new skill (which start at the lowest level) simply by
buying them. Each skill package comes with a number of skills, you only have
to buy each one once and you have it forever. Buying all three of these skill
packages will unlock the skills: Mineralogy, Herbal Medicine, Recipe, Courage,
Patience, Esthetic Sense, Good Eye, Whistling, Copying, Sketching and Kitchen
Knife. Kitchen Knife is a great early skill for physical fighters.
If you're ready, then we're going to head up to Cross Castle at this point.
The castle is located on the north end of town ( you can't miss it). When you
get inside, speak to the person on the left at the reception desk who handles
audiences with the king. You won't be able to get an audience right away, but
they invite you to go and explore the castle while you are waiting. Ascend
the stairs on the left side to the second floor. Run up the hall and go up
the stairs on your left again. Enter the first room on the third floor.
These are the Prince's chambers. When you speak to the servant in there the
response you get is "The prince is resting in his provinces." Rather odd to
hear. Regardless, don't worry about it for now. Open up the treasure chest
to get '500 Fol.' Speak to the two chambermaids standing out in the hallway
now. One of them will say they STILL haven't found the prince, but she is
quickly shushed by the other maid. There's nothing to be found in the
princess' chambers so head down the stairs on your right and go back down to
the first floor. The time has come for your audience with the king however we
are not quite done exploring the castle yet. Go down the stairs on the right.
Enter the large room above you in the middle. This is the armory; inside the
two treasure chests you will find both a 'Wooden Shield' and a 'Leather
Helm.' Now that you've checked everything out go back upstairs and speak to
the guards in front of the king's throne room on the first floor. They will
give you permission to enter, so head up and speak with the king.
____________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THE STORY SO FAR: The King of Cross recognizes Rena almost instantly, even
though he has not seen her since she was a child. Rena explains that they
are starting an investigation of the Sorcery Globe and they would like as
much information as possible before they set out. Ask first about the
strange events happening and the king explains that many oddities have
occurred recently, but there is no direct evidence to tie it to the
Sorcery Globe. Next ask about the Continent of El to learn that there is
a war going on between the people and monsters. There is little
information on the battle so it's difficult to know what's going on.
______________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ask the king about the Sorcery Globe to learn that a survey team has been
sent, but has not returned. If you're going to be investigating the Sorcery
Globe then you're going to have to be well equipped. The king gives you both
'600 Fol' and the special item 'Passport' which will allow you to take a boat
over to the continent of El. He tells you to take the ship that leaves from
Clik to reach El. After the audience with the king is over, leave the castle
and return to town. Before you reach the entrance you'll be interrupted...
____________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THE STORY SO FAR: Standing in the middle of the city square is a woman and
a man standing over what appears to be some kind of map. Both of them
claim ownership of the document and the argument is getting pretty fierce.
Claude runs into the middle to try and mediate their dispute. The male
wizard charges up an attack but the girl simply casts a spell which sends
him running away cursing. She recognizes Claude and Rena from the castle
and shows them the map they were fighting over. It's a map of "Cross
Cave," a cave nearby which has been fully explored, but recently a new
area has been discovered that is shown on the map. After agreeing to tag
along with her, she introduces herself as Celine, a treasure hunter.
______________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Make sure you agree to Celine's request to go treasure hunting. Cross Cave is
going to be your first real dungeon so you'll definitely want to make sure
your party is prepared and well equipped. Celine gives you the 'Treasure
Map' and then it's off to the cave for you! Before we go there however, since
you have a new party member on your team note that a number of Private Actions
have now opened up. You might want to do them before you proceed further.
____________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PRIVATE ACTION: Involving [Claude] and [Celine]. LOCATION [Arlia].
Requirements: This Private Action has no requirements or prerequisites.
Description: Look around for Celine in front of the town general store.
She'll say that she has something she wants to give you, a
good luck charm. You have two options in this case:
- No, I can't accept it. I appreciate the thought though.
[Celine R. Points with Claude increase by 2.]
- Thank you. I love it, Celine. [Claude's R. Points with
Celine increase by 4, and vice versa.] You also get a
?JEWELRY item which becomes a Talisman when identified.
PRIVATE ACTION: Involving [Claude] and [Little Girl]. LOCATION [Salva].
Requirements: Must have stayed at the inn in Cross already.
Description: Speak to the Little Girl standing to the left of the shops
where Rena was standing during her first Private Action here.
The Little Girl will ask if you are the Warrior of Light.
- That's Right, I'm the Warrior of Light. [Everyone in your
party gets one Friendship Point increase toward Claude.]
- Sorry, but I'm not the Warrior. [Everyone in your party
loses one Friendship Point toward Claude.]
- Right now, I don't know whether I'm the Warrior or not.
[No relationship changes occur for anyone in the party.
Claude explains that he might someday become the Warrior, but
until he does something worthy of the title he cannot be
called that. The Little Girl gives him a 'Harmonica.'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PRIVATE ACTION: Involving [Claude] and [Rena]. LOCATION [Salva].
Requirements: I'm not sure, but you might first have to do the Private
Action with the Little Girl in Salva before this one.
Description: Head to the jewelry store in town and you should find Rena
in there. Make sure that you have 200 Fol before you speak
with her. Rena points out an Emerald pendant to Claude:
- Wow, it is pretty. [Claude loses one Friendship Point toward
Rena, and Rena loses one Friendship Point toward Claude.]
- I don't know much about jewelry. [Claude's F. Points toward
Rena increase by 2, and Rena's FP toward Claude also +2.
- Let me buy it for you (200 Fol.) [Claude's Relationship
Points toward Rena increase by 3, and Rena's Relationship

this scenario you lose 200 Fol but get a 'Leaf Pendant.'

Requirements: Must have done the other Private Actions in this town with
both Rena and the little girl (not in any particular order.)
Description: Locate Celine standing frustrated in the jam store. She
went there to purchase some jam, but the shopkeeper is nowhere
to be found. Now you will be prompted with two choices:
- I'll go find her. [This choice branches, see below:]
Saying that you will go find her means that you
have to leave the store and head up into the entrance
to the Salva Drift left of Alen's house. There you
will find a pink haired girl naked Yuki. It turns out
she is an aspiring singer practicing hard:
- Don't give up on your dreams so easily. [Celine's
Friendship Points with Claude go up by two, and
every else in your party's F. Points toward Claude +1.]
- Dreams are dreams, but you should live in reality.
[Celine's friendship points toward Claude +1].
- Why don't you come back later? [Celine's FP to Claude -1].

Now it's time to venture to Cross Cave. From the town of Cross you need to
follow the path east (if you can't tell the direction on the world map, press
start to bring up the full scale minimap.) Make sure you use the minimap that
shows the whole world and doesn't rotate. At the fork in the path you should
easily be able to spot the entrance to Cross Cave east of where you are.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now let's take a moment before we proceed to talk about a couple of other
important options that will assist you in battle. The first is controlling
the AI of your party members. It's not an advanced system, but if you open
the menu and select Combat --> Strategy it will bring up a menu where you can
choose the actions of your party members. If you think Celine is wasting too
much MP then set her to "Conserve MP" etc. You get the idea. A little bit
more advanced option you have is to limit the types of spells and abilities
people can cast / use. Open up the "Specialty" menu for a magic caster, put
your cursor beside a spell and press square. You will see that it goes dark.
This means that the AI controlling the character will never cast this spell
ever. It also extends to other things like Combat Skills. You probably don't
have any now, but when you get Combat Skills keep in mind that they can be
turned off in the menu (with square) if they start to get really annoying.
Also here's another bonus tip for those players who don't plan on using Celine
throughout the whole game (almost everyone I imagine.) Since she's already
pretty weak and not going to help you all that much, I say dump her out of
your party now. Open up the character replace menu and stick her on the
sidelines. You'll miss out on a few weak spells now and then, but you won't
have to share the experience with Celine and you'll find that Claude and Rena
gain levels quite a bit faster. The more powerful Claude and Rena will make
up for the lack of Celine anyway. It's up to you what you want to do.
Proceed up past the entrance hall and into the cave. Make a left at the fork
here and open up the treasure chest in the next room to get a 'Blueberry.'
Return to the fork in the path and go right, then up. In the next room there
are three paths (aside from the one you came in from): up, left, and right.
Start by taking the path that branches to the right. It leads to two lone
treasure chests containing 'Iron' and 'Blackberry.' Go back to the previous
room and take the left path this time. There are two paths branching from
this room as well. The left one is somewhat hard to see, but it is there. Go
left to find a dead end and another two treasure chests containing
'Artemis Leaf' and 'Sweet Syrup.' Go back again to the previous room.
Head right this time to find a single chest containing 'Cure Poison.' If you
go down from here you reach a room you've already been to, so the only
direction left to go is up. Open the two treasure chests in this room to
receive 'Lavender' and '?MINERAL.' Take the left path and go up until you
come to another chest, this one with 'Lavender' inside. Keep going up to the
next screen and make a left at the fork. Open up the two chests here to get
both 'Stink Gel' and 'Sweet Syrup.' Go back to the right and then go right
again. You should end up in a large room with weird looking flower-shaped
symbols on the ground. This part can get kind of confusing with all the
branching paths so make sure that you pay attention (if you want everything.)
Go down at the screen I just described in the previous paragraph. Another
four-way branching fork. Take the left path here and you should come across a
treasure chest with '?ITEM' inside. You're on the right track. Keep moving
in this direction to the next screen and down through the red grass. At the
bottom you will find a treasure chest containing 'Cure Poison.' If you keep
going you can reach a 'Blackberry.' Don't worry about those other chests for
now, we'll get them in a second. Go up from here, through the red grass, past
the open chest to the screen with the four-way path split. Take the path
going down which is somewhat hidden, but you can see it due to the green
coloured light shining. You'll follow a short path and end up in the little
area with those chests I just mentioned. They contain 'Feather Pen,' '600
Fol,' and 'Resurrection Mist.' Return once again to the four-way split.
Take the right path this time and you'll come to another fork. If you go down
you'll end up back in a room you've already visited. Go right instead to
reach a dead-end with two chests containing a 'Magic Canvas' and a 'Tri-
ball.' To get from the room you're in now to where you need to go, head left,
left, and up. This will bring you back to that room with all the flower-
shaped symbols on the floor. Take the upper right exit to trigger a scene.
____________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THE STORY SO FAR: Claude, Rena and Celine come to what seems like a dead
end in front of an enormous glowing rock structure. According to the map
the treasure room is supposed to be just ahead, but there doesn't seem to
be anywhere to go. Before they start looking for another path Claude asks
to take a look at the map. He finds something written on it that is
barely visible. A spell of some kind. Celine tries chanting the spell
and suddenly the large rock shines to reveal a secret path leading further
into the cave. Seems the map wasn't a fake after all.
______________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Save your game at the save point and heal your party here. When you go up
into the next room you'll find a total of five treasure chests. Open them in
the following order: the two closest to you, they contain '700 Fol' and
'Green Beryl.' The chest on the right contains 'Heart Barriers' and the one
on the left has the valuable 'Ancient Writings' inside of it. Unfortunately
the documents are impossible to read, you'll have to find some kind of
linguistics scholar. This cave has an optional boss inside of it. Not
optional in the traditional sense like "really hard, don't have to fight" but
more like "normal boss, don't have to fight." When you open the last treasure
chest it's actually empty, but it automatically triggers a boss fight with two
Gargoyles. If you don't open the chest, you don't right them, period.
If you took Celine out of your party like I suggested earlier, it might
just be a good idea to put her back into your party for this battle, not
because she's a powerful character, but for a reason I will explain in a
moment. The two Gargoyles are somewhat difficult when paired, and
remarkably easy when alone. Your goal should be to eliminate one of
them as quickly as possible. They have two total attacks: a normal
physical hit that does weak damage, and a grab-and-bite attack that
does weak damage about five or six times in a row. This is the one that
starts to hurt. The worst position you can possibly find yourself in
here is between the two Gargoyles. When that happens they sometimes
catch you in an infinite loop of grabbing-and-biting. This is why
I suggested bringing Celine along for the battle. With her casting
the spell "Ray" every two seconds it will interrupt the bosses just
long enough to let you escape from their grasp. Having only 1500 health
it shouldn't take more than 15 sword slices each before they go down.
Focus all you have on one of them until it's dead, then take the other.
____________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now that you have what you came for, you can pretty much backtrack through
Cross Cave the same way you came in from. Just before you actually get out of
the cave, Celine will take you aside to discuss the situation.
____________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THE STORY SO FAR: After learning that Celine has an interest in
investigating the Sorcery Globe, Claude has the bright idea of inviting
her along on the journey. Rena doesn't have any (verbal) objections.
______________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There are very few (if any) reasons not to have Celine join. If you really
wanted to make sure that (warning, minor character spoilers ahead, read the
following at your own risk) you got Opera, Ernest, Precis/Bowman, Dias/Leon,
Noel and Chisato then you wouldn't have room for Celine, but other than that
she's not going to get in the way. If you plan on getting Ashton (instead of
Opera and Ernest) then I'm pretty sure there's no way to fill up an eight
person party without her. Long story short? Take Celine with you. If for no
other reason than to help out now, and keep her in the main storyline.
Well now that Cross Cave has been taken care of, it's time to move on toward
your real destination: Clik! Clik is located directly north of Cross Cave,
there's even a sign out from that will point you in the right direction. The
path branches as you are going up, make sure you cross the bridge as opposed
to following it in the other direction. Soon enough you will reach Clik.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All right, those of you who like to do everything they possibly can in a game,
are you ready to start making some money? This is a very important one-chance
only time in the game. This is your one chance to acquire an ultra-rare,
can't-get-anywhere-else item, as well as to unlock the hardest "optional" boss
in the game. I say this because he's actually sub-optional. What you now
have the option of doing, is triggering an event that will multiply the power
of the final boss exponentially. Better known as turning his "limiter" off.
The only reason one would want to do this is for the added challenge of being
able to battle and defeat the most difficult boss in the game. It's entirely
optional whether you want to turn off his limiter or not (you don't even do it
here, but there is an event you must witness to get the process started now.)
Basically the jist of it is this: in Clik there is a girl named Filia. Do the
Private Action (outlined below) where you listen to what she has to say. Much
later in the game you can find her again (I'll cover that when you reach that
point) and turn off the boss of the game's limiter, making him more difficult
than any other optional boss you find in any dungeon. Now aside from that,
what about the rare item I mentioned? It's called the Mischief. An accessory
that (when equipped) gives you random items for free every couple of dozen
steps you take. The items are generally low in quality, but they're free!
How does one acquire this item? You must "pickpocket" it from the same girl I
just mentioned, Filia in Clik. At this point in the game you're not likely
going to have the pickpocket skill, which is why it's so difficult. You CAN
get it however it's going to take some work, and money. The whole process is
covered below in the indented area entitled "OPTIONAL STUFF." If you don't
care about anything I've said for the last two paragraphs, skip over it.
____________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OPTIONAL STUFF: We'll begin by getting that special Mischief accessory,
since turning off the boss of the game's limiter takes much less work (all
it is, is a Private Action.) You will need the following to get started:
the Dexterity talent. I mentioned right at the beginning of the game to
keep resetting and starting over until your main character was rolled with
the "Dexterity" talent. This is the reason. Without this talent it's not
impossible to Pickpocket successfully, it's just a hell of a lot more
difficult. To view your talents, go to the skill menu and press the
triangle button twice. If you don't see "Dexterity" on your main
character then you had might as well give up on the Mischief item.
If you do see Dexterity then you've met the first requirement. With the
second one, even if you don't meet it you can get there with a little
work: you need 40,000 Fol. The reason for this? Even if you have the
Pickpocket ability, it doesn't actually work unless you have Bandit's
Gloves equipped. Bandit's Gloves cost 40,000 Fol to purchase, so start
fighting battles and selling items to get that money. Exactly how are you
going to work up that kind of money? Well move onto the next paragraph!
40,000 Fol may seem like a lot, and it really is, but you're not limited
to just random battles for making the money. First we're going to head to
the port town of Herlie on the eastern shore, past the village of Mars.
When you arrive there Rena will complain about how you're supposed to be
going to Clik. Ignore her. Head up all the way to the top of town where
the skill shop is and purchase all of the skills you don't have (you'll
need about 3000 Fol for this.) You now have the all important skill:
Perseverance. This is the skill which reduces the cost of all other
skills. Every level up to level 10 costs 8 Skill Points, so all in all it
will cost you 80 Skill Points to max it out. The higher level you can get
this, the faster this process will go. You only need to really do this
for one character, but since Perseverance is so important, you may as well
start leveling it up with everyone anyway. Continue when ready.
Another skill that you got with Perseverance is called Playfulness. This
seemingly useless skill is actually the biggest contributor toward your
new pair of Bandit's Gloves. After you've lowered the cost of all your
skills, take a look at how much money you have. Now pump a few Skill
Points into Playfulness and check your money again. The first level of
the skill deposits about 200 Fol into your wallet, the next level gives you
about 700 Fol, 2000 Fol, 4000 Fol, 6000 Fol etc and it just gets
bigger. This is the best way to get money at this point in the game.
Just keep leveling one character and pumping skills into Playfulness.
Remember the higher the level of Perseverance, the cheaper it will be and
the faster all this will go. You may want to do it with Celine so you
don't have to waste so many points on Playfulness for a good character.
Once you have the 40,000 Fol (or more), head to the town Herlie on the
east coast, the same one where you bought the new skills. Check the
antique shop and that's where you will find the Bandit's Gloves. Equip
them on your main character and you're almost ready to rock. You still
need to get the actual Pickpocket ability on your main character. To
learn it you need to put points into the skills "Poker Face" and
"Courage." For every two level of these skills the Pickpocket level will
increase by one. I would recommend getting it to at least level four.
I'm pretty sure that Courage and Poker Face only cost 1 Skill Point for
the first four levels or so with Perseverance maxed, so that should make
it really easy to do. Now it's time for you to return to Clik. All you
need to know about Pickpocketing is that when you have the ability
learned, and the Bandit's Gloves equipped, press square next to almost any
character in the game to attempt stealing an item. You'll either succeed
or fail based on your skill and Pickpocket level. You can only try once
per person, so if you screw up on a rare item you have to reset the game.
______________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The very first time you go into Clik you should do so with a Private Action.
You must do this one now otherwise you won't be able to do it later.
____________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PRIVATE ACTION: Involving [Claude] and [Filia]. LOCATION [Clik].
Requirements: This Private Action has no requirements or prerequisites.
Description: Quite possibly the most significant Private Action in the
game. If you want to turn off the boss of the game's
limiter (described elsewhere in this guide) then this P.A.
will begin the process. It is also suggested that you have
the Pickpocket ability since Filia holds the unique
Mischief accessory that you cannot get anywhere else.
Run to the middle of town and look for a girl in a purple
clock standing near your characters and some other townsfolk.
When you approach her she will suddenly begin to speak. She
is predicting that massive destruction will befall the town.
For turning off the boss of the game's limiter that is all
you have to do until much later. To get the Mischief simply
equip the Bandit's Gloves and (assuming you have the
Pickpocket ability) walk up to her and press square. If
you fail at your attempt then no problem, simply reset and
try again. If you succeed then leave town and SAVE!
______________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As far as I know that is the only Private Action that occurs in Clik. With
that out of the way we can finally begin to explore the town. The next
indented section covers all of the Pickpocketing that you can do here, and
then after that the comes chests, shops and progression through the story.
PICKPOCKETING [CLIK]: When you first enter the town there is a purple
haired main in front of you. He carries '800 Fol.' Enter the inn and
steal from the innkeeper to get a 'Zephyr Earring.' There's a girl on the
right side who carries '500 Fol.' The house south of the inn has no one
inside, so pickpocket the girl on the left across the bridge to get
'Today's Dish.' Enter the Antique Shop beside that woman and steal from
Milly to get a 'Flash Pot.' Exit the shop and head straight up into the
pub where there are quite a few people. The Proprietor has 'Aged Berry
Juice' in his inventory. The man at the counter holds an 'Artemis Leaf.'
Steal from Andrew the Wood Carver to get '100 Fol' and then from the other
man with purple hair to get an 'Aquaberry.' You can steal from the guy in
the bathroom through the door as well, he holds a 'Dummy Doll.' Make your
way to the weapons shop and steal from Flint to get some 'Worn Knuckles.'
Now we move onto the central town square. If you're in Private Action
mode and you haven't spoke to Filia yet, then you can steal the ultra rare
'Mischief' from here. If you fail at Pickpocketing this item, then reset
your game, you can't get it anywhere else. The street vendor in the
chef's hat is carrying 'Pancakes' for you to take. Pickpocket the young
woman on the right to get an 'Extension Card.' There are five people
wandering around on the left side. Boyfriend holds 'Silver Charm,'
Girlfriend holds 'Battalia Ring,' Ice Cream Girl has 'Orange Sherbet,' Old
Man has 'Silver Cross,' and Old Woman has 'Ruby.' The Restaurant entrance
is the door to the building at the upper left corner of this screen.
Steal from Owner to get a 'Root Beer.' Cook in the kitchen is holding
'Vegetables.' There are a number of people to be found upstairs, but
unfortunately you cannot steal from any of them. Exit the restaurant and
go next door (left) into the Clothing Store. Steal from Golgo at the
counter to get 'Odd Clothes' and from the Customer to get a 'Robe.' There
is a Customer behind the curtain getting changed, she carries 'Odd
Clothes' as well. Leave here and go left into the Clik Bakery. The
little Girl holds '500 Fol' and the Baker has an 'Egg Sandwich.' Leave
here and head up the stairs to the Skill Guild. The Guildmaster holds a
'Mandrake,' the Explainer a 'Magical Clay' and the Advisor a 'Sapphire.'
Continue up the hill to the top. If you're in Private Action mode with
Claude then you can steal from Rena to get 'Mystical Beings.' If you're
playing as Rena then you can steal 'On Training' from Claude. Steal from
Old Man to get a 'Fountain Pen' then from Woman for an 'Anklet' and then
from Young Man to get 'Iron.' If you've gone through everyone here then
proceed down and make your way to the furthest southern screen (pier.)
The first Sailor has 'Hassaku Tea' while the Sailor running around with
beads of sweat holds 'Discovery Card.' Of you're in Private Action mode
then you can steal a 'Cinderella Glass' from Celine here. The Sailor down
by the boat holds a 'Feet Symbol' and the Heraldric Wizard holds a 'Herbal
Oil.' Steal from the Captain to get ''Ishidaya' Tea.' Over on the right
side of the screen the angry Sailor holds a 'Berserk Ring.' Steal from
the nearby Boy and Girl to get '50 Fol' and 'Apple Crepes.' That's about
all there is for now. You have to begin progressing the story in Clik to
open up another couple of characters to steal from. The little blue
haired boy Ketil that you meet soon has 'Bandit's Gloves' which can be
stolen, and the Housekeeper at his house has '200 Fol' with her.
______________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Clik is a great place to just kick back and relax (assuming you haven't
stressed yourself out already on all the stuff you could do before finally
getting to this point. If you happened to pick up the Mischief item by
stealing from Filia this makes a great time to equip it (and leave it on all
the time). Even if it seems kind of annoying, it's worth it, and the reason
for that is the random item you will received every once in awhile "Forged
Medals." Every time you get one of these open up the item menu and use it on
a character to get reduce the EXP needed to gain the next level to 1.
Check out the weapons shop and upgrade your equipment there. I would not
recommend that you upgrade Claude's sword here since there is a much better
one (for 4000 Fol) in the next town and you won't be fighting any bosses
between now and then. After you're done checking out the other shops there
are still treasures to be found. Enter the house just below you when you come
into town. Open up the chest in here to get 'Lyre.' Next you need to head
left to the town central square. Go into the Restaurant and get the three
chests in the kitchen for 'Vegetables,' 'Grain,' and 'Seafood.' That's about
it actually for treasure in this town. Kind of disappointing.

When you're ready to proceed with the game what you need to do is head down to
the docks and speak with the Captain of the ship. Show him your Passport to
convince him of your status. Since the ship isn't quite ready to leave yet,
you've still got some time to explore the town. What you need to do is head
up one screen and something will start happening automatically.
____________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THE STORY SO FAR: Since the ship still has to be loaded, the party decides
to take a moment and have a rest. Before they can even sit down Claude is
bumped by a small blue haired boy. Doesn't take long before he realizes
that his wallet has been stolen. That little kid who bumped into them
must have stolen Claude's wallet. Now they have to find the kid.
______________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Head down one screen to where the ship is docked and check the right side of
this area. You should find an angry sailor there looking over two kids.
Speak to both the boy and the girl and they'll tell you there's a boy named
Ketil who's always playing by himself at the warehouse. The warehouse is
located on the first screen just to the right of the weapons shop.
____________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THE STORY SO FAR: Claude tries to force the truth out of the little kid
who refuses to say that he knows anything about the wallet. Rena tells
him that they need the money in order to keep traveling, and he kind of
fesses up about his crime. The party agrees that they won't pursue the
matter further if the boy agrees to give the a tour of the town.
______________________________________________________________________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Start by going into "The House on the Hill" at the bottom of this screen for a
scene with Ketil's mother and housekeeper. After that, leave here and go left
to the central town square. As you run down the path you'll be stopped in
your tracks by some kind of earthquake. Ketil doesn't seem to notice. He
believes that he's shown you enough and now you've got to do something for
him. Go down one screen and speak with either the little boy or girl. The
party manages to reunite Ketil with his little friends. With that complete
then enough time should have passed for them to load the ship. In actuality
it's almost complete, but not quite. Before you speak to the Captain again,
note that (BEFORE talking to him) is your last chance to do everything you
need to in Clik. Last chance ever to Pickpocket everyone, most importantly
last chance to do the Private Action with Filia. If you believe that all
business has been taken care of and you're ready to proceed, speak with the
Captain. He'll tell you to go make any last minute purchases that you need.
When you head up to the next screen, suddenly the ground begins to shake...

THE STORY SO FAR: There's an earthquake again, but this time much stronger
than before. So strong in fact that the party needs to seek higher
ground. One of the game's very few CG cutscenes triggers showing the
powerful force of the earthquake, and the destruction of the town. When
Claude attempts to run up the stairs another cutscene will begin. An
enormous tidal wave blasts through the town cleaning up what little didn't
get destroyed the first time. Clik as they knew it is now totally gone.

Speak with the Captain who survived the disaster. Obviously there is no
longer a ship here that goes to the continent of El. He gives back the
Passport and then explains that if they catch a ship from Herlie to the
continent of Lacour, then they should be able to get permission from the king
of Lacour to cross to the continent of El. You can speak with everyone here
who survived and also note that most people now have new items that can be
Pickpocketed from. After you've spoken to and stolen from everyone, then
you are ready to continue your journey. Your next destination is the village
of Mars which is located back down south to Cross Cave, then just east.

The quaint village of Mars awaits you. Before we have the luxury of exploring
the entire town for treasure, there are a couple of events that we need to get
out of the way. The first is entirely optional, it is a chance to acquire one
of the most powerful weapons you can find at this early stage in the game.
Obviously there are better ones, but none that you will find for quite some
time. This weapon is the "Marvel Sword" which has an attack power of 1100.
Compare that the to power of the Flame Blade you can purchase in this town
which has an attack power of 160. Quite a difference wouldn't you say? This
weapon will basically make every battle for the next decent sized stretch of
the game a cakewalk. Obviously you're only looking to do this if you don't
mind making things ridiculously unbalanced in your favour for awhile.
To acquire the Marvel Sword you must have the Pickpocket ability which I
described in detail during the last section on Clik. Make sure you have the
Bandit's Gloves equipped and a Pickpocketing skill at a decent level. Enter
the village of Mars and go over to the right side of town. Directly to the
right of the inn standing beside some barrels is a man appropriately called
"Old Man." When you Pickpocket this man the item you get is called a
"Treasure Chest." What this item does (when used in the menu) is randomly add
three items to your inventory. The pool of items it picks from is quite
large, but the best weapon (for Claude) that it can give randomly is the
Marvel Sword. To get this item, open up your item menu and sort it by how new
each item is (triangle button to bring up sort menu.) Now save your game.
[Still regarding acquisition of the Marvel Sword] Load up the game and use
the Treasure Box. Scroll down to the bottom of your item list to where new
items will appear. If you see the Marvel Sword then quickly save the game.
If not then quickly load your game. Do this over and over again until finally
one of the items you get is the Marvel Sword. If it seems like you are only
getting one or two items each time, you're not. Any new items which are
copies of something you already have will just add to the quantity of that
item elsewhere in your list and not appear at the bottom. It took be
approximately half an hour and using the box and loading to get the sword,
which I imagine is a pretty average amount of time. Just put on a movie or
music or something to occupy yourself while doing it. Trust me, it works.
Back to the village of Mars. Before we can proceed to raid the various (but
few) treasure chests in the village there is something which we must do. Head
to he left side of town and go into the northwest house to trigger a scene.

THE STORY SO FAR: This is Celine's hometown, so as you go inside you'll
find her mother there along with a number of other people from the town.
It seems the party has stumbled into the middle of a meeting about some
kind of incident which has occurred in town. Last night all of the
children from the village vanished without a trace. Soon after a message
was received from the Heraldry Forest which said that they were being held
by bandits who demand 500,000 Fol and [The Book of Secret Seals] which is
a treasured tome of Mars village. Even though they could likely take down
the bandits, the risk to the children would be far too great. At the
moment they are entirely at a loss about what to do. At that moment the
attention is drawn to the other man at the table who has not yet spoken.
Rena suddenly realizes that the white haired man is Dias, the man she once
knew who grew up in Arlia Village and left after a tragic incident. Dias
is known to be a master swordsman, there is no one around who does not
know his name. While they are sure he is a good swordsman, they feel it
is irresponsible to hire someone who is merely passing through. Celine
suggests that perhaps that could be rectified by having her, Claude and
Rena go in and defeat the bandits. Dias is a little put off by the idea
of them just running in and screwing up the whole planned operation. He
says he doesn't care what they do, but not to come crying to him if the
operation fails because of Celine. He leaves to return to the inn.
Outside of the house Rena has run off to meet with Dias. She returns to
speak with Claude and Celine to suggest that they team up with Dias to
defeat the bandits. Dias has agreed to fight together with them if that's
how they want it to be. Claude says that if the man is as strong as he
says he is then there is really no reason for him to tag along. Rena
doesn't agree at all and says that she will accompany Dias then, by
herself. The party is split now into two teams, Claude and Celine, as
well as Rena and Dias. They will venture separately to save the children.

With the children out of the village and your party split (making Private
Actions difficult) this is neither a good time to go around Pickpocketing the
entire town, nor is it a good time to take part in Private Actions. Instead
what we will do now is wander around the village to find all of the treasure.
Head back into the house you were just inside where the meeting took place.
There is a back room to the house where
