Here are the Affinity Readings for Persona 2: Eternal Punishment made by
ATLUS for the PlayStation. This guide can be used for both the Japanese and
American versions.

| [02] HOW TO ACCESS THE AFFINITY READINGS |
O============================================================================O
You can start the Affinity Readings just after the scene at Parabellum and
Aoba Park by talking to the Rumormonger Barkeeper. He would say, "The Sumaru
Genie seems to have started Affinity Readings. Good or bad, it really comes
true." Now go to the Kuzunoha Detective Agency and spread that rumor with
Chief Todoroki for 3,000 Yen. You would now open up the Affinity Reading
command at the Sumaru Genie at Konan! Even though the number of people you
can have an Affinity Reading with may seem big, due to the fact that there are
63(!) people to choose from, the majority of them are composed of the Satomi
Sisters. That is when the Sumaru Genie needs to "power up"!
After completing Mt. Iwato, you should now obtain the new "power up" rumor
from the Rumormonger Barkeeper again. He would say, "Did the Sumaru Genie
improve her skills? There are more people getting into Affinity Readings.
Why don't you try?" After spreading the rumor with Chief Todoroki, all of the
Satomi Sisters would now be replaced with familiar faces from Innocent Sin
such as Eikichi, Lisa, and etc. There may also be a slight change in some
results, mainly when Narumi is destroyed after the scene in Ameno Torifune.

| [03] PURPOSE OF THE AFFINITY READINGS |

There are some benefits in getting an Affinity Reading:
· They're not that expensive since they only cost 5,000 Yen!
· The infamous "Snow Queen's Theme" from Megami Ibunroku Persona is playing in
the background! [Especially since the Snow Queen Quest was taken out of
Revelations Series: Persona, therefore just to listen to the "Snow Queen's
Theme" is a special treat for us American fans!]
· You will get discounts from your favorite stores!
· Deal more damage with your Fusion Spells! [Read: KILL BOSSES FASTER!]
· That warm fuzzy feeling you get when you are compatible with your favorite
character! Let's positive thinking!
If the reasons above aren't convincing enough to go get yourself an Affinity
Reading with the Sumaru Genie, I might have to brainwash you with the "Satomi
Tadashi's Pharmacy Song"! =D
[AFFINITY READING STATISTICS:]
· TOTAL # OF QUESTIONS = 63 questions.
· AMOUNT FOR READING = 5,000 Yen for Affinity Reading of 1 character.
· TOTAL AMOUNT OF YEN = 315,000 Yen for all 63, including doubles.
· # OF REGULAR RESULTS = 35/63 characters, excluding doubles!
· # OF POWERED UP RESULTS = 55/63 characters, excluding doubles!

A binary code are used for the Affinity Readings. Simply, a certain value is
given for each question. If you answered "Yes" to a question, you are given a
certain amount of points depending on the numerical value; but if you answer
"No" to a question, the value given is 0 points. Every time you have answered
"Yes" to the 6 questions asked, just add up the values and you will have your
total. The result should be a one- to two-digit number which tells you who
out of the 63 characters you have an Affinity Reading with.
Here are the values for each question in the binary code:
· Question #1: "Yes" = 32 points | "No" = 00 points.
· Question #2: "Yes" = 16 points | "No" = 00 points.
· Question #3: "Yes" = 08 points | "No" = 00 points.
· Question #4: "Yes" = 04 points | "No" = 00 points.
· Question #5: "Yes" = 02 points | "No" = 00 points.
· Question #6: "Yes" = 01 point | "No" = 00 points.
Here is an example of how it works: Let's say I am aiming to get Lisa in my
Affinity Reading. So I will check up on her numerical value, and she is 37
points. So looking at the values listed above, I would have to answer "Yes"
to Questions #1, #4, and #6 to get 37 points since Question #1 is worth 32
points, Question #4 is worth 4 points, and Question #6 is worth 1 point. And
32 + 4 + 1 = 37. Also means I would have to answer "No" to Questions #2, #3,
and #5. So I will answer the Sumaru Genie's questions as "Y-N-N-Y-N-Y", and I
will have Lisa as my final result!
It's a very simple and easy process to learn!

[Q: DOES EVERYONE HAVE AN AFFINITY READING?]
· A: No. The people without an Affinity Reading are Maya Amano, Anna, Devil
Artist, Fujii, Principal Harding, Mr. Kashihara, Makimura, Matsuoka,
Mizuno, Noriko, Nyarlathothep, Maya Okamura, Philemon, the Shadows,
Sugawara, Stalker, Tatsuzou, and many more that I won't list!
[Q: WHAT ARE THE PROS AND CONS FOR THE REGULAR AFFINITY READING?]
· A: The pros for the regular Affinity Readings is that when you get an
Affinity with a Satomi Sister, you can get discounts at Satomi Tadashi.
Also the Satomi Sisters would give you a free item, that is if you can
identify them correctly. The cons to the regular Affinity Readings is
that there isn't much of a selection to get an Affinity with.
[Q: WHAT ARE THE PROS AND CONS FOR THE POWERED UP AFFINITY READING?]
· A: The pros to the powered up Affinity Reading is that all of the Satomi
Sisters would be replaced with characters who plays a major role in the
game thus you can deal more damage with your Fusion Spells. The cons is
since the Satomi Sisters are gone, no more discounts.
[Q: WHAT STUFF DO YOU NOT GET EVEN WITH AN AFFINITY?]
· A: Even though there are tons of benefits for getting an Affinity. Some
characters will not give you anything special even if you get them as a
result: [1] There will not be a change in the effects on the treatments
or foods you use. [2] Items you sell will not be worth twice as much.
[3] The Shiraishi Lady will not lower the price on her Mansearches, nor
would she increase the reward. [4] The Count will not give you anything
extra on duplicating your Spell Cards. [5] Rumormongers will not tell
you twice as many rumors. [6] You will not deal more damage to foes you
have an Affinity with such as you won't deal more to Metal Eikichi if
you have an Affinity with him. [7] The Manager of Mu Continent will not
lower his exchange rate from Yen to Coins. [8] Having an Affinity with
Igor, Belladonna, or Nameless will not increase your Personas' stats,
nor would they decrease the amount of Tarot Cards used to summon them.
[9] The Sumaru Genie will not give you any free Affinity Readings.
[Q: HOW CAN YOU TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN EACH SATOMI SISTER?]
· A: There's no way to tell them apart from each other visually. It's best
to use my guide to ensure you get the right Satomi Sister.
[Q: 7 SATOMI SISTERS? WHERE'S SATOMI SISTER #3 AND SATOMI SISTER #4?]
· A: Don't ask... just don't ask.
[Q: ON THE QUESTION, "ARE YOU A MAN?", HOW CAN ULALA BE IN IT? SHE'S A
WOMAN! UNLESS BAOFU'S RIGHT ON THE "CROSS-DRESSING B##CH" PART...]
· A: I kid you not, it's not a mistranslation. The Japanese question was
"Jibun wa dansei de aru?", translates into, "Are you a man?" It's quite
confusing, but I think the goal was the female outcomes who had "Yes"
answered for Question #1 are dominant. The resulting females are when
you answer "Yes": Aesthetician, Chikalin, Ginko, Mary, Miyabi, Reiko,
Saleslady, Shiraishi Lady, Tammy, Trish, Wang Long Chizuru, and Yuki.
But if it makes anyone feel better, here are the resulting males when
you answer "No": Barkeeper, Bartender, Captain Shimazu, Chris, Chunky,
Count, Eikichi, Guido, Igor, Jewelry Designer, Jun, Katsuya, Toku, Dr.
Tomi, Tony, Unmotivated Waiter, Waiter Soejima, Whistle Shopkeeper, and
Yung Pao.
[Q: HAS AN AFFINITY READING ACTUALLY *WORKED* FOR SOMEONE?]
· A: Yes, it has worked with my sister who was having a hard time defeating
Was Sugawara. I told her to have an Affinity with Tatsuya and fight him
again. She did what I told her and then her usual 850 damage with the
Fusion Spell "Meltdown" was now doing 1140 damage! She eventually
killed him all thanks to the Affinity Reading! And we continued to use
it in order to defeat the Metal Trio. Also I have received an e-mail
from reader, KingDarian, who said the Affinity Readings also helped him.

| GAMEPLAY QUESTIONS |

[Q: DO YOU NEED THE AFFINITY READINGS TO PROCEED FURTHER INTO THE GAME?]
· A: Not at all! They are there for the same reasons as how the Restaurants
are there for, to help benefit you. These I found to be a lot better
than the Restaurants because the Affinity Readings lasts forever. Or
until you've change your Affinity to another character.
[Q: IF THE RESULT TURNS OUT TO BE AN ALLY, WOULD YOU GET A SPECIAL CONTACT?]
· A: No, you would not get any Special Contacts with your allies. Even the
Sumaru Genie itself said that!
[Q: THE DISCOUNT GIVEN IS 20% OFF?]
· A: Yes. Parabellum usually sells a weapon for around 76,800 Yen without an
Affinity Reading. When you have an Affinity with the Bartender, then he
would now sell the weapon for 61,440 Yen. In order to get the
percentage of the discount, do the math: Original Price * Percentage =
Difference / Original Price - Difference = Discount. The original price
was 76,800 Yen, times it by 0.20 and the answer is 15,360 Yen. [76,800
* 0.20 = 15,360.] Now with 15,360; minus that from the original price
of 76,800 Yen and you'll get 61,440 Yen [76,800 - 15,360 = 61,440].
There we have it, a 20% discount!
[Q: YOU DO MORE DAMAGE IN FUSION SPELLS IF YOU HAVE AN AFFINITY?]
· A: Yes, I've tried it myself. I went into Kasugayama High School and
fought a Ratatosk. I casted the Fusion Spell, "Ryuhi Tensho" [Wind +
Wind], by letting Maya cast "Garudyne" and Katsuya cast "Maha Garudyne".
I was dealing 1247 damage to it. Then I went to the Sumaru Genie and
had an Affinity with Katsuya. Then I battled another Ratatosk using the
same Fusion Spell. Instead of dealing 1247 damage, I was whippin' out
2424 damage! I cannot recommend enough to get an Affinity with the
strongest ally in the game, usually Tatsuya. You'll thank me later!
[Q: MUST MAYA BE IN EVERY FUSION IN ORDER FOR THE INCREASE DAMAGE TO WORK?]
· A: No, Maya does not need to be a part of every Fusion Spell. If you have
an Affinity with Baofu, then the damage dealt in Baofu's Fusion Spells
would be increased with or without Maya. You can still deal huge damage
with a Fusion between Baofu + Ulala + Nate, but only if you got an
Affinity with either Baofu, Ulala, or Nate.
